MS research show off interactive live tiles

might sound a little stupid, but is an interactive tile, not really a small window? but on metro rather than desktop?

its something that should have been there from the start

^ If that were the case, in all things that should have been in Win8 from the start, perhaps we'd not have Windows 8 at all until some point during 2014. Microsoft could have depended on Windows 7 in the meantime within the diminishing desktop market and forfeited the opportunity of establishing itself in the maturing, app-based tablet market.

No, it's not windowed apps or anything like that. Watch the video. However windowed metro apps in the desktop are coming at some point as they said and showed that off at Build2014

Metro is a new UI, and there's a huge amount they can do to improve and refine it. This would be one very nice addition.
The desktop wasn't created in one release.
