hi, please help, i recently cleaned pc fans i removed motherboard from case to do this leaving cpu cooler attached. now the problem is when i put it back together it wont post beep, no bios just all fans spin up. yes ive checked connectors 5 times over, retested bios, removed ram and tried different scenarios like no ram, 1 stick 2 sticks different sockets and nothing. ive tried psu and gpu in other pc and all is well. so any suggestions please.

specs

asrock 970 extreme 3

amd fx-6300

corsair vengeance 1600 2 x 4gb

evga geforce gtx 560 (non ti)

cit 550 watt psu

Xigmatek Aegir CPU Cooler

sandisk 128gb ssd

thanks Dave

Go right back to bear essentials, remove everything that's not required, ie if you have on-board GFX use those and remove your graphics card, basically all you want plugged in is your CPU, 1 stick of RAM and your CPU fan, you don't even need a hard drive plugged in, after all at the moment your just trying to get into the bios.

Do you have a speaker plugged in to the pins where your hard drive LED and power LED plugs in, without this you wont get any bios beeps, unless you have a speaker built onto the mobo, at the moment im putting money on it being your GFX card as you would have had to also remove this to remove the motherboard, however, it could be something as simple as a short.

Do you have a friend you can test things like RAM and GFX card on there system.

once you can then get into the bios, start putting things back in one at a time, this will tell you whats causing the problem.

hi thanks for reply. ive already done as described above. theres no on board gfx but i tried without any way just to see if there was a beep. ive tried with just cpu and heatsink only then went up from there as in 1 stick off ram 2 sticks, gpu. but nothing just the cpu fan going. the only light i know off on the board is the lan port which is green usually, but thats not on when cable is in. im hoping the cpu isnt dead as friends have said to me.

thanks dave.

The PSU make does not fill me with confidence.

The 4 / 8 pin for cpu is connected ok (often gets missed even when rebuilding :p)

Try it on a desk outside of the case, mobo, cpu, ram and gpu, could be a short in the case somewhere.

Also I know this sounds dumb, but its a common problem, make sure you have the power cable in the back of your GFX card, and the 8 pin CPU power connector in the mobo.

yes theres a speaker into board, ive tried 2 different ones, no beeps. the gpu and psu work, ive tried them in a friends pc. thats all i could try as its a old intel pc with ddr2.

its out the case on the original box. the psu which i want to upgrade soon works and its been fine for about 2 years now, its only using the 4 pin to cpu ( thats all it has) . as for connections as ive said above ive checked everything 5 times over.

Sorry mate, just trying to help.

I basically had the same problem once, and it actually turned out to be a faulty fan plugged into a fan controller which in turn was plugged into the motherboard, all fan would spin, but the computer wouldn't fire up, I fought with it for hours, and as soon as I unplugged that fan, the whole thing worked perfectly.

no need to apologise mate your help is much appreciated.
the first thing i did was unplug everything and started my way up from nothing. i just dont get how it was playing games 1 hour before. all i did was unplug psu, gpu, soundcard, psu then unscrewed motherboard and lifted it out the case slightly to get at the fans to clean. i left all satas and from panel connected. then back together and now im on here.

ok so had it in the pc shop today and they've found the problem and its the motherboard its dead . the mobo was about a year old so thats me put off asrock. has anybody had any experience with any of these boards?

Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P

Asus M5A97 R2.0

MSI 970A-G46

I have the same problem with the asrock 990 extreme 4 board.
It's only 18 months old too. And I get 5beeps on start up and a error.

I've removed everything, only using essentials, and I've heard that asrock boards can suddenly die.

Il stay as way from they board from now.
I'm going to either get the top gigabyte board or the asus crosshairs or sabertooth

Gigabyte all the way, excellent boards and a UK RMA service only based in Milton Keynes, by all accounts Asus have a really bad RMA service, but don't quote me on that as ive not used Asus in years.

Sorry to hijack, bit what do you think of the UD7 board, being the most expensive board for amd

Very nice board, I was looking at it yesterday, was looking a building a cheap little AMD system for my Mrs, but I think its EX-ATX so it wouldn't be so little.

I too had an asrock micro atx am3+ board. It lasted about 4 months then had the same problem as the op except sometimes it would turn on other times it was like everything was working but no signal to the monitor. I then fitted the asus board in my sig in august and not had any problems since.
