Didn't realise these were this cheap!

Hmm

Quite a good little thing to hurl around in, you're right about how much car you get for the money really

However

How many dodgy old rovers are you going to buy? Can't you just fix whatever one you've currently got sitting not working?

I tend to buy them, run them for a bit and sell on - it helps to work on them all so I know them inside out.
The ZT could do with a fair whack spending, hence the down-time. It's not all MOT stuff, just the suspension is rather tired at 150k, and I'd rather renew the lot in one go.

A friend of mine nearly bought one of these, and they are apparently rather good cars, so if you can drive it around for a while and sell it on for a profit, it seems like a good buy to me.

I just don't understand why your daily driver isn't absolutely mint. You're in a very fortunate position whereby you know the cars inside out and can get parts incredibly cheap. You should have the best ZT-T in the UK which would fly through an MOT!

But then the suspension will be knackered on the zs too

Just seems a never ending cycle of buying another fairly abused old mg/rover, never quite sorting it then buying another one.

Its good that you're passionate about them and the likes of the 180 was genuinely a good car ( though obviously not without its faults) but I'd get really tired of just constantly fixing them with no real end game

I'd much rather save one at risk of being scrapped than drive a minter - in my ownership I'll replace anything obviously wrong, re-ticket the car and then sell on to another enthusiast.

Only a couple of the cars I've owned have since been scrapped - most are still going strong, thanks to some TLC and a bit of polish. :)

This one is actually fairly clean, save for a couple of ripples on the bonnet and a small dent on the passenger door.

The ZS suspension seems much tougher than the ZT - the BMW-derived system on the ZT tends to suffer more with ball joint wear and snapping rear springs, the multi-link ZS seems to pretty much live forever.

I guess there's no end game - sell parts in the week, tinker on weekends. It's just what I enjoy. :)

There is a reason they went under. They were making cars from the 70's in the 90's. The Rover 400 was quite a nice ride, until you turned into a petrol station for the first time after you drove it out the showroom , then it started to go wrong.

if you were to perhaps show us a SV or a ZT260 then we might ooh and aah a bit more :)

c'mon you know you want a V8 in your life :)

Another Rover thread, another 'fixer upper' and 'BMW derived' mentioned on the first page. This is the mattyprice4004 we know and love :)

I quite like the look of the Facelift ZS, shame about the dash and the fake wing vents though.

Saloon > Hatch

The richest person I know happens to drive one of these. With some stupidly loud japcan hanging off the back of it. He also has a BOTR z3, an old range rover and a Ferrari 512TR.... I never understand why he doesn't just stick to one good daily and the Ferrari.
