Hi guys, this is my first post, I think I might have been caught speeding?

So I was coming back from work on Friday when I went round a corner to the left, there is normally a truvelo speed camera (catch you from the front) there, this time though it was facing the other way, like a gatso speed camera, but there were no markings on the road. I initially did 25mph driving up to the camera, i speeded up when past it, I was talking to a passenger, looked at the speedo and I was doing just under 40mph, realised the speed camera was facing the rear of the car I slammed on the brakes, I don't think there was a flash (it was a sunny day so hard to tell) my brother said it looked like a truvelo, the same as before but turned the other way.(no flash bar).

Can forward facing speed cameras catch you if facing the rear of the car?

If it was a truvelo then yes, it can get the rear of the car. They have a magenta flash which is visible, but easy to miss in direct sunlight. If the car's registered to you at your address and you don't receive an NIP within 14 days, you'll know you've got away with it.
 
Damn it! Thanks, I guess its just a waiting game now, putting a speed camera after a bend is just a money making trick! First time in 10 Years I have been possibly caught speeding! :(

You'd do well to invest in a sat nav with speed camera locations on it. Mine activates with the ignition and stays on when driving, even when you don't set a route. So if you're approaching any type of camera, it'll beep and tell you. That way, you won't have any nasty surprises :p
 
Truvelo's are generally triggered by piezo wiring in the road. The wires are positioned so that the front of the car is visible when the wheels hit the wires.

As a result it is highly unlikely it has snapped the rear of your car unless you were on the wrong side of the road.

It was a one way street with two lanes, the rear facing camera was on the right hand side of the road. I had to merge into the right hand lane and stay at 30, it's ridiculous!

With no lines on the road. Youve NOT been caught. They need the lines to prove your vehicle is moving at, at least xx speed.

It's not a trick if you're not speeding! ;)

The more people they catch then the more people with points on their license who might think about driving slower in future so I'd say it works.

So you'll be stuck behind someone doing 25mph a lot more! I guarantee almost everyone has driven over 30 in a 30 zone at any moment of time, unless you don't have a car you have a restricted 50cc moped! So practically nobody would have licences, but I guess their the lucky ones who haven't been caught yet. ;)

Far from speed cameras making the roads safer, what are you doing when you pass one.....looking ahead of you, keeping you eyes on the road?...no you keep looking at your speedometer making sure your vehicle doesn't roll over 30!

Yes, they're proven to cause accidents and reduce road safety, that's why they keep being used...:confused::rolleyes:
 
Surely after 10 years of driving you've learnt to gauge your speed without constantly looking at your speedo?

You know, there is a middle ground between speeding and doing well under the limit, where you can just... drive at the speed limit? :p
