This could have gone into the Internet forum but it will get more discussion here (maybe, and some of it might even be serious). :D

Talking to a friend, I have just realised that some people consider the use of adblockers etc. to be somehow wrong or immoral. I have never heard that viewpoint outside of people who obviously make ad money, so what gives? Surely people don't exist that LIKE being bombarded?

He says we shouldn't be taking away revenue, I'm saying they shouldn't be taking my time, bandwidth or attention. Maybe this isn't a new argument to the web but it's new to me and I don't really know how to argue my point.

My end goal is simply to watch BF4 game plays without watching an ad for fanny cream or whatever unrelated crap they want to shove at me.

I disable ads on sites that are in some way annoying or disruptive, anything not child friendly too.

But on YouTube and Twitch it is disabled, I'm watching content for free that without said ads wouldn't exist.

Yeah it's not just youtube, it's the internet lol.

When I got my new laptop I was amazed just how bad it had got. I never noticed because I'd never used a browser with no adblocker so turning it on out of the box was a slap. Never again!

To be fair, YouTube before Google was haemmoraghing (sp?) money.

That doesn't surprise me, I don't remember paying that much attention to the internet back in those days so I wouldn't know. Granted, Google took it to a new level, but ruined it with 'features' like DASH.

Edit: And like twist3don3 says, there are more than enough 'stupid people' that don't use an adblocker for google/channels to get paid. If a kid can make 5x what I do playing a game then it's a good gig, adblocking isn't hurting anyone just yet.

4od kills me, adblocker is needed there. I also don't care about taking money away from anyone who uses ads to make money. Sure they still get plenty of views from others.

I always use adblock software on my laptop, but don't run it on my mobile. I just try and be much more selective of the sites and apps that I use. I haven't felt the need to root it to install a mobile adblocker yet. Thankfully, YouTube ads on the mobile apps aren't too annoying (yet).

I've rooted and done that just because on the rare occasion you do get an ad on a mobile browser it quite often leaves the website completely unusable. Nothing more annoying than an ad that follows your scrolling.

Adblocker is on for every site on my desktop... seriously, the ads are usually pretty intrusive on the sites I visit.

Google especially is blocked, they can track enough of my actions via google analytics which 90% of sites use and my search results (which I can't actually see on google analytics for my own site anymore...). If I wanted to watch adverts on a 'music video' I'd watch tv... Besides, there seems to be plenty of money being given out by youtube for 'kitten' videos.

Not to mention googles search results put far too much emphasis on the sponsored links these days, up until that I was happy to allow certain adverts everywhere but I've tick the box on adblock to block everything now.

I'm pretty much of the view these days that if you want to have a website then you should be able to afford the hosting etc without resorting to adverts all over the site. I don't mind 'sponsored' articles if they're more of a 'review' rather than a sales pitch

Just so you know, without the ad's there would be no youtube videos.
It's how they get paid to make the content....

That's not how it works. YouTube doesn't pay people to make content. They merely give you a share of the ad revenue on a video you've already made.

Ads are lost on me because I ignore them, but when I used a browser without Adblock I was really shocked how much sites are littered with annoying flashing adverts. Do people really go "WOW! MANY ADVERTS! SO FLASHING! MUST CLICK!" ?

I have adblock installed but even when I didn't I never click on the as. My mind just filters them out andand I never click on principle.

I would rather donate money to a website than have adverts.

Any website that I use often that has the 'please disable adblock and support us' message; I'll contact the admin and tell them to set up a PayPal donate link.

One thing I do like on my phone, at least I'm getting targeted adverts through Google in it.

Same here. I do donate a small amount to one particular website related to cars as I use it a lot... And buy from overclockers occasionally so support this site that way.
