Didn't realise these were this cheap!

I need to get my hands on a Rover at some point in my life and see what the fuss is all about.

A rover 400 2.0 TDI was my first ever car. It was in a gorgeous dark green. Really enjoyed driving it. Nice handling and just an all ro8und nice motor.

Down side was she was like a camel. Just a lot of times no matter what you did she dint want to play ball and just go lol

Yeah, Cat C usually means some kind of structural damage that requires a VIC check to be able to go back onto the road.

Not here to jump on the bandwagon but matt, don't be so gullible with what a seller tells you.

Not a bargain if it is a write off. Otherwise you would have said.

Another day another bore of a rover.

Just think of the nice car you could have had instead if spending a few hundred here and there on completely toss rovers. Shame.

Just to nit pick a bit, but a VIC is not required to put a Cat C car back on the road, nothing is. A VIC is literally a 10 minute check that the cars VIN numbers all match to prevent ringing, thats all. It doesnt check anything to do with the cars road worthiness nor does a cat C car require anything more than a non Cat car to be on the road.

I have had 3 now for various reasons (i dont actually drive any of them mind :p)

Do you not work at ocuk anymore?

I love the way some people Who own BMW's Mercs and Audi's, that go wrong all the time and give you huge bills are taking the mick out of the Rover, irony must be lost somewhere.

That car is fairly well regarded and is not a bad car at all. If you have passion and love for something then every decision doesn't have to be a rational or logical one.

Call me old fashioned but I quite like the rear tailgate on these. OP if you enjoy the rovers then good for you, ignore what anyone else says. Still though, having gone through so many rovers and spent a few ££££ can you not just get one excellent motor vehicle?

The richest person I know happens to drive one of these. With some stupidly loud japcan hanging off the back of it. He also has a BOTR z3, an old range rover and a Ferrari 512TR.... I never understand why he doesn't just stick to one good daily and the Ferrari.

I found this quite funny. My dad has a rover 827 which he uses whilst he's in the UK. He's pretty well off and his other cars include a 68 dodge charger, 64 Mercedes 280se cabrio, a 70's ford galaxie ltd and in Rio he even has a personal driver to chauffeur him around. I think the rover is the only one he is interested in keeping :P

You (and the other guy going on about how it would be different if it was a BMW) are rather missing the point I think.

There is nothing wrong with enthusiasm for a particular brand, nothing at all. But this is a bit different.

Basically, every 4-6 months, he buys a Rover and usually tells us that it was a bargain, or it's a great example, or its brilliant in some other way.

Then 4-6 months later he will repeat the cycle again, telling us that the last one he bought has had to come off the road for some sort of open heart surgery in order to get through an MOT.

This cycle is continually repeating, I don't think I am exagerating if I was to say this is probably the 10th or 11th time. Each time it's a good one or a bargain and each time it ends up off the road and replaced with another to keep him on the road.

The point people dont get is why not just have a great Rover? He could pick any car they ever made and buy a really great one and keep hold of it and not need go through this odd cycle of finding a new 'bargain' every 5 months that ends up unroadworthy a few months later.

It feels a bit like repeatedly running into a glass window over and over again :p

I'd much rather save one at risk of being scrapped than drive a minter - in my ownership I'll replace anything obviously wrong, re-ticket the car and then sell on to another enthusiast sic mug..

Only a couple of the cars I've owned have since been scrapped - most are still going strong, thanks to some TLC and a bit of polish. :)

This one is actually fairly clean, save for a couple of ripples on the bonnet and a small dent on the passenger door.

:p

The CAT C is a year old so only minor damage would have written it off.

Yeah, tbf, on a £750 Rover someone sneezing on it will be enough to write it off.

OP, i feel a bit different to the rest of the forum, i quite enjoy your posts as you are clearly a car enthusiast (even if they are Rovers) who likes to tinker with cars that are....er...sub prime? :p

At least it isn't another "spec me a £18000 car BUT MUST BE DIESEL", "Speeding - was i caught and what will happen?" or "Car crash - who's to blame" thread.

He'd have had less stick if he hadn't made a thread claiming to be surprised how cheap it was.

It's a 10 year old Cat-C MG/Rover with an expensive to run engine, I'd be more surprised if it wasn't cheap, and I know nothing about these cars, surely someone who's had as many as he has would have realised by now that there's next to no market for these cars!
