Hi

Sorry if this has been asked before but cant find an answer.

Which cooler is best for crossfire in most peoples experiences?

With a focus on temps and corresponding increased noise to keep cool?

The MSI gaming edition looks to be a nice card and i remember reading somewhere that is is brilliant in crossfire but i cant find where i read it.

Regards

Jason

I went MSI gaming for my 290x CF due to the low noise and clock for clock it's one of the quickest 290x's on the market, however you cant beat the cooler on the TRI-X, so if temps are the main issue then this is the card to get.

Yeah i fully expect a lot of pro tri-x comments as it is clearly the best, however it has its negatives...it is HUGE, it is over 2 slots more like 2 and a half/ quarter which may affect crossfire times of the top card and finally it is more expensive that he msi.

The only thing with a couple of aftermarket cards in XF is they don't exhaust the warm air out the case, so be aware that you will need some way of getiting the very hot air out of the case. A large side-panel fan set to extract would be ideal.

All of these cards make some serious heat and it blast's out sideways so a good airflow in your case is a must.

Size wise you sure your not thinking of the PCS card as this is a 2.5 slot card.

EDIT, the MSI is £400 again, the TRI-X is a good card but no way worth another £160 for the pair over the MSI, the MSI is built so nicely as well.

Would you not be better waiting a wee while and seeing what the uk lricing of the 295x2 is?

It will have a slight premium over a couple of 290X's, but the cooler looks to be excellent, only takes up 1 slot and the heat is moved out the case via the rad.

If I was going down the 290X CF route right bow and didn't intend to put blocks on the cards and fully water-cool them, then the 295 would certainly be very high in my considerations.

Legitimate point, however my case (FT02) would not fit it alongside my H2O 920 plus the length of that card might be an issue.

Ah fair enough, yeah it does look like quite a long card, and obviously having enough room for a radiator + 25mm wide fan will cause issues in a lot of enclosures.

Yeah as above do make sure you can get enough cooling between the GPU's I had to change up my motherboard for a 4way PCIx 16 Asus P8Z77 WS

Before I had them both about a lane and bit between them and top card would always hit 90c
On new board I now have one GPU in top slot and another in very bottom slot. Now both cards max out around 70c

Before - Ignore all the drawings when I was planing the change.

Not only do we share the same case and motherboard. We also share the same door.

Shanks does your H80's tubing stink? My h100i tubes smell terrible. Its like some dirty old man has been sitting in a leather chair in a hot room for weeks on end sweating, before taking off his y fronts and rubbing them all over the tubes.

Always smell computer parts, its a must. In my opinion you can't beat the fresh smell of a game manual, or a motherboard manual or something like that. Mmmm, fresh manual.

Next time you open her up (thats what she said) sniff those tubes.

This some sort trick joke :p I do agree though the smell of a new game is class. :D

No word of a lie. The new tubing they use on my H100i stinks. I've had two h100i's before this one, and the tubing was slightly different (still rubber but a different kind) and did not stink. I just want to know if its common or whether i just got unfortunate. I've even tried cleaning them with soap and water to lesson the old man crotch smell but it made no difference.

I also just opened up my case and, in an undignified manner, lay on the floor and took a whiff of my H100i's rubber pipes and as is fitting for Lt's graphic description of his H100i's smell, mine smelt like the freshly bathed buttocks of Jennifer Aniston.
