R9 290 vs GTX 770

What is the rest of your system Marakith? I would hate to see you buy a 290 and find out you are running a dual core CPU or something very old

RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR-1600 RAM
PSU: Corsair TX650M 850W
Upgrading from a MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 Twin FrozR III Power Edition 2048MB.
I built the system in December 2011. I'm only upgrading the GPU because I'm upgrading the monitor. Currently on a 22" at 1680x1050 and happy with the performance. Considering I'm doubling the pixels, I figured I should go with something to last a while. I don't see any meaningful upgrades for the CPUor RAM out there at the moment.

Grab that MSI Gaming or the Sapphire Tri-X would be my choice

Who knows next to nothing apparently since he made you think about getting a 290 or 770 lol
The salesman maybe looking at it from his point of view - 770 could = bigger markup.
