It has warmed up quite nicely as the series progresses - some of the initially one dimensional characters are getting fleshed out a bit. I still really struggle with some of the acting though - the actors playing John Silver, Eleanor Guthrie and Anne Bonny are all excruciating to watch. I also think the sex/nudity is really hit and miss - half the time we're being titillated with comedy trollops and the other half we're supposed to be empathising with them. And I speak as someone that loved Spartacus
I found it quite funny, that the number one question asked of the producers, is "does Billy survive?" as he likes to point out, Billy is an integral part of the opening of Treasure Island. Of course, since so many people don't know anything that they don't see on TV, it's not entirely a surprise that they don't know.
I thought it ended just as it was getting good and reaching some of its potential. Prior to that it was watchable but just a good way to waste an hour. Not up there with the story telling of Spartacus or as interesting characters.
Good first couple of episodes - well paced and most of the characters seem to have more depth than they did at the start. Even John Silver doesn't seem as annoying this time around. Hopefully they can keep it up.
Liked season one a lot in the end - had its downright weird moments but it's not an out and out pirate show half the time!
Noticed straight away that the actor playing Dufresne (the book keeper with the glasses) has changed in season 2 - not sure I like the new guy as much in that role but hey ho!
bit of a head stumper show, its nice to have a pirate show but I think I can live without black sails the occasional battle and sex scenes aren't enough if you can concentrate long enough and enjoy the drama and premise am sure its good.
