Sole traders generally or a specific industry?

Where do sole traders normally hang out? Work that out and then market there.

thats not good -

ill rephrase the question what are the best sites to start generating buzz about new platforms

Who do you want to generate buzz with? Who's your target market? What are you enabling them to do that they can't already do today? What's your message?

You know what I'd do? (I'm thinking about this as a prelaunch too)

Great a small campaign of advertising through twitter/fb as their ads are hugely competetive and you can have some great targets on facebook. Set a low budget for the campaign and monitor the demographics and page hits vs beta sign ups figures.

As a sole trader I have no idea from the current design if that site caters for me (design), the name and logo seem very 'builder' orientated which is already pretty saturated with this 'type of site'.

I'd assume a potential customer would have the same issue with not knowing what types of work they can source there.

It also doesn't really seem to offer anything new, it's arguably less useful than facebook (which it looks similar too by the images)

it is primarily for sole traders in the some improvement industry - the idea is to provide a platform to empower the sole trader to market themselves without the overheads and inflexibility of a company structure.

each builder is vetted by us and we dont charge a lead fee or a subsription like other platforms.

each sole trader would have ratings made from real people which is why its linked with the social network.

Ok, so create a marketing campaign around that.

Think about if you're a sole trader in the target industry, why you would use your platform vs the more established players ...

How about being honest? If you wanted people's opinions and nothing else you'd have asked for them long before getting this close to launching it. What you're doing is trying to spread the word and "generate buzz" now that you're about to launch. That's fine but this is a poor way of doing it.

How about just being honest and stick it up on Reddit or something and see if people like it? Don't dress it up and try to hide it.

It's not a new idea by any means, but your presentation looks ok on the site, and if you target people in the right way you might get some interest maybe.

I think the mods should close this thread.

We are taking the angle from the trades man perspective - rated people , my builder all charge the builders for a lead which they may not get or for a subscription.

we are trying to disrupt the way that people look for a tradesman - By having a completely transparent system the user can browse all sole traders profiles and select the right one for them depending on their needs

Its really nice to hear peoples feedback this wasnt meant to turn into self advertisment
