Thoughts of a PC Gamer about GTA V & Patience

I game on a PC. I don't own any consoles apart from my daughter's Wii and my wife's DS.

However, I want GTA V badly and while I initially thought I'd just wait for the elusive PC version my patience has pretty much run out, and I trawl gaming websites and YouTube game-play videos at 2am, wishing I had GTA V...well the last bit is an exaggeration, but you get the idea.

So, let's say I throw money at the problem and get myself either an Xbox 360 or a Playstation 3, in its cheapest version, and I get a copy of GTA V, and an HDMI to DVI adapter to hook the console up to my PC monitor...

Which one of the 2 consoles should I go for? And I'm not asking this in a 'which one is better Sony or Microsoft?' way. The reason I ask this is, the last time I owned a console they were still black boxes that were not connected to the internet, that didn't require you to belong to any clubs, to pay subscriptions to anything.

Which of the 2 consoles, if any, is closest to just being able to start the game and play without having to create accounts, register for stuff and hopefully not pay for Live this or that?

They're about the same. You don't necessarily need to register for an account on either of them unless you want to play online or use online functionality, though you do get some nice in-game freebies in single-player for being part of the Rockstar Social Club which would presumably also require a Live/PSN connection.

My understanding is that the PS3 version looks/runs slightly better but it doesn't seem to be a huge difference; the Xbox version needs either a hard-drive or USB flash drive to install one of the discs. I think ultimately it just comes down to which controller you prefer and whether you're interested in playing any other games on the thing or using it for other stuff e.g Blu-rays.

If you want online it costs money on xbox

However in your case I'd go for a cheap 360 (cheaper) just requires an install to HDD or USB and you're done.

Whatever you buy now, you can sell for the same price once done no doubt. certainly won't be much difference anyway so shouldn't really matter. Just check out local ads site to see which you can pick up cheap/close to you.

Can probably nab either for sub £50 local. I've seen PS3s round my way going for £40 ono...

The PS3 version though can be prone to graphical bugs with textures not loading in time (PSN version mainly), just like the 360 version can.

360 version can be alleviated by installing the game to an external USB (minimum required 16Gb).

The PS3 disc drive may also be extremely loud during playing (an issue Fox experienced in the official thread).

You've waited this long... it is almost certainly getting a PC / PS4 release in the next couple of months.

If you do go ahead then if your using a HDMI-DVI converter you'll also need something for the sound depending how you're hooking it up. PS3 comes with a L/R stereo output as standard which you can hook up to speakers directly.

Proof?

I would hold on just for a bit longer, i to want GTA 5 but i refuse to buy a ps3 or xbox just for it, it surely has to come to next gen and PC, Rockstar have been arrogant towards the PC fans, one site is saying March 15, 2015 to me that's taking the pea it at all true:mad:

Thanks for the replies guys.

I think I'm going to hold on till E3 to see if they announce something. That would be 10th to 12th of June. If there's nothing by then, I reckon it will have to be a PS3, just because the online service is free really.

EDIT: Having said that, if you look at the list of exhibitors for E3, Rockstar aren't actually there...so the 'news' that suggested they'd announce it at E3 might be more speculation/made-up-crap. (http://e314.mapyourshow.com/5_0/exhibitor_results.cfm?type=alpha&alpha=R)

Shame because Rockstar should at least show off Agent.

On the GTA V topic I think Rockstar would be silly not to release it on the next gen consoles but I think it will only end up with a PC port tbh.
