I have recently been suffering a number of computer lock ups when gaming and i have a feeling its to do with over heating, i took my pc to a tech guy who suspects its my cpu heatsink/fan which arent up to scratch but im not knowledgeable enough to figure out what i need for my pc's needs or what will even fit, can anybody help me out?
I'm not sure what details i need to provide but i have a AMD Phenom II X4 965 with 8gig ddr 3 ram and a geforce gtx 275 gfx card and i've provided a screenshot of the inside of my case in case it helps

Ideally i would like to spend less than £50-60 but my pc does get pretty noisy when gaming so i will take any suggestions on board.

I remember trying out the stock CPU cooler when I got my 965. And it was useless, loud and couldn't keep the CPU cool enough.

If you don't want too spend to much then this cooler is pretty decent:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 High Performance CPU Cooler £22.99
Total : £22.99 (includes shipping : ).

Sold my 965 on to a friend and he's using that cooler with it, works fine with a mild overclock.

This is also a very cooler cooler for the money:

1 x Raijintek Aidos Direct Contact CPU Cooler £14.99

why do you think it's to do with overheating? Have you run any logging software in the background or prime 95'd the cpu while monitoring heat + voltage levels to make certain? just wondering how you got to this conclusion and everyone followed. I've seen far far worse setups that what you have with far less adequate cooling and they have not suffered from overheating even under such poor conditions.

Does it lock up consistently in every program when you push it?
Does it lock up under benching in windows?
Do you get a bsod?
Have you analysed it if you do?
Have you tested the memory?
Have check drivers?

Sorry but I'm just wondering how exactly you got the issue and came down to overheating?

Sorry for getting back to this so late, real life issues but thanks for the replies.
To answer your questions ukbilleh, like i said i'm a bit of a noob so im not ENTIRELY sure its to do with overheating. When i game, whatever game i play one of my fans gets ridiculously loud and its been suggested to me that its the cpu one which cant cope, though when i run SpeedFan my GPU gets considerably hotter (around 80-90) than my CPU. When the crashes occur the pc just reboots, no warning, no bsod.
I'm not really experienced in memory testing or "benching" but drivers are all up to date.

Download CoreTemp. Take a screenshot showing the CPU temperature during gaming and you might find out whether your CPU is throttling or not.

I see you have three sticks of Corsair xms RAM. Lock ups could be due to memory errors by mismatched sticks/timings. I believe the timings are written on each stick.

I think those wires are probably stopping any air from getting from the front to the gpu/cpu. You might just need to give the heatsinks a clean to make sure there is no dust stuck in them as well.

Check cpu temp if its high, I would invest in new cpu cooler, the higher it run the hotter air gets inside case, u can keep ur pc open for now, it should help and get new Tim old one might be dry.
275 should not run 80-90 C but don't change tim on gpu yourself its very easy to get it wrong

Proper cable management should be standard for anyone who builds their own computer, it just looks like people don't care able their systems when you see a rats nest like that

Make sure the cooler is clean and organize the cables near the sides of case so they are not in the middle of airflow to cooler. Than let us know what your temps are.
