Hi all,

I have an old Leak Stero Amp in a lovely wood case that is not doing much.
Would be great if I could place 2 very small speakers on top and using an mp3 type device, put some music through it.

The size of the Aego satilite speakers would be ideal but these do not come up often without the sub, anything you can name similar would be ideal,

Thanks,

Tiny speakers like the Aegos are going to produce next to no bass. It's going to be like listening to your laptop speakers. Is that what you want?

Good point,
A bit of bass would be good actually,

What is the smallest but with some bass speakers I could get please?

About the smallest that can stand on their own two feet as a mini-monitor are the Monitor Audio Radius 90. They are in the 3rd generation edition now, called "Radius 90". At about 3 ltr each they are less than half the cabinet volume of the Q-Acoustics, so if you are looking for something very small then these should be on your list. They are £350/pr.

Radius as a range has been around since 2006. The design brief was simple... miniaturise a bookshelf speaker and maintain as much performance as possible. They succeeded. The 90's sound like bigger speakers than their size suggests.

The 1st gen product is called "Radius R90". The 2nd gen was introduced in about 2009 I think. It was a reworking of the successful predecessor. IMO the 2nd gen product was and remains the best of the 90 family. The 3rd gen product, called "Radius 90" has much lower sensitivity. If it was me, I'd keep my eye on the classifieds section of AV Forums looking for a pair of R90HD.

Other physically small speakers are the JBL Control 1 (though they're really a near field monitor) and Wharfedale Diamond 9.0 These are 5 and 5.6 ltr respectively. The JBLs are very efficient (89dB) but a touch analytical for Hi-Fi use. Some users also report a bit of vibration from the ABS cabinet at certain frequencies. But at £60/pr it seems churlish to complain. :D

Wharfedale Diamonds have been around since the 1980's. They redefined what was possible with a small-box budget loudspeaker. The range has evolved and refined over 3 decades. They also got cheaper too. The 9.0's are £60/pr

I would recommend either;
- Steinway Lyngdorf Model D
- German Physiks Gaudi Mk II
- Perfect8 Technologies’ The Force
or if your budget can stretch, try the Wisdom Audio Infinite Grande
