Ive been using windows 8 for a while now and i do like some parts of it here and there but i still find the apps and metro still very annoying and also i have experienced a lot of games issues, cant even run dirt 3 for some reason on windows 8. Im seriously tempted to go back to windows 7. Whats everyone on atm? any one convince me to stick with 8? i usually prefer to use the latest and etc.. but i just feel ill have a lot less problems with windows 7?

Also is there any actual performance difference between the both whether gaming or software and etc?

Only gone back to win7 because british gas do not recognise win8 as a legitimate operating system :P
ps excuse any spelling = blame grants ;)

I find Win8.1 boring now(even when using Metro and without any third party Start menu mod),all my games work,no driver issues and all my software works fine so can't complain at all,as to Dirt 3 you tried this? http://thehow2everything.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/solved-dirt-3-wont-start-work-launch.html .

As to going back to Win7,never is my answer since I only go forward so looking forward (no pun intended)to Win9 :) .

do people actually use the metro and apps? i try and avoid that as much as possible, is there a way to completely remove it

Don't have a clue about the Dirt 3 issues, however if you install something like Classic Shell you can avoid Metro entirely. I see no reason at all to move back to W7 when this is done, unless you have specific problems (eg. compatibility).

whats the best program to bring back the start menu? classic shell looks allright but that logo alone would put me off on the bottom left lol

edit: seems like its customizable ? would prefer more of windows icon on the bottom left like in w7

In W8.1 it uses the Start button that's already there, so you can have it use the default logo so it'll look standard.

It's extremely customisable, too much so to be honest, the settings can be damn confusing!

Very tempted, Windows 8 is problem after problem on top of more problems.

And...

Need i say more?

lol not seen that one before.

I had 7 and 8 dual boot for awhile but don't even bother with 8, 7 has worked so much better for gaming and just works how I want it (with a few minor tweaks). 8 even with a fair bit of tweaking is still a bit annoying to use the way I use an OS.

lol at that pic. I seriously think microsoft failed big time with the whole metro/removing start button and apps. - or atleast have different versions of it, you should be able to have windows 8 similiar to w7 and xp and another one for touch screens/tables/mobiles and etc. sometimes i really like to smoothness of it w8 but every now again you get these things that make you wonder WHY??? i want an OS not a tablet OS - i have ipad for that lol

Go back to W7? I've never moved to 8 from it yet on both my desktop systems and have no intention of doing so.

My wife's laptop is running 8 and whilst I can find my way around it fine, she hates it, coming from a previous laptop which ran 7. No patience, women. :p

Nope, I adopt to change. I ignore the metro ui, boot straight to desktop and use windows 8 like I do with windows 7 but quicker. Have no reason to go back to 7.

Is there any difference in terms of performance regarding games and programs? not benchmarking wise but just for a normal user?

It seems to handle demanding multithreaded games better on 4 core or less Intel CPUs and AMD 8 core but not so much difference with 4 core / 8 thread i7s which are generally pretty similiar performance and smoothness between 7 and 8.

Bought my daughter a laptop that came with 8, even with 3rd party addons she hated it... installed 7 and all is well with the world

Win8 is their first hybrid OS,on Win8.1 you have the option to boot to the old desktop so avoiding Metro Start for the most part, the old Start menu is returning to Win8.1 down the road as well so that should keep some users happy,Win8 is very customisable so I don't see it an issue to be honest and I use both, they are all tools to me so I use what I need.

I've mine customised on Metro Start and old desktop like here,(both are screenies before Update 1).

I like a clean old desktop even on Vista,Win7,8 etc so Metro Start has its uses.
