Didn't realise these were this cheap!

Why must everybody conform to your view about car ownership ? Why can't he just constantly buy and sell rovers ? Why must he "just buy a good one" you're just the same with your view points about servicing, winter tyres, buying premium tyres, and keeping a car pristine etc.. The list goes on.
If he enjoys buying ropey cat C rovers and tinkering with them, why should he stop and do it your way ?

You've missed the point by such a margin I'm not sure if its even worth trying to explain it.

Summary: It's nothing to do with 'conforming to my view about car ownership' otherwise I'd be suggesting he buys something totally different not thinking of other ways to enjoy Rovers. It all hinges on the fact its always a 'bargain' and a 'great example' then its off the road 5 months later, thats all :p

BTW, bought some winter tyres last year :p

Why the need to argue with him about what is and isn't a bargain ? If he thinks it's cheap then let him.

We have the same issue when people post up about what new diesel super mini they bought to save money. If people ask for advice, then we should give it, but this whole need to argue with people and prove them wrong when they talk about value for money is stupid.

When people say this at work you don't start an argument with them equally if they don't want to listen to sense and walk away, you don't run after them shouting. Because everybody at work would think you're a &@^*

This is the same, but on an Internet forum

Work isn't a medium specifically designed for the discussion of cars, though, whereas a motors forum is. That's the key difference. People post stuff, others discuss it. It's not the same as a casual conversation at work or at a mates house or whatever - this place and others like it exist purely so people can exchange views and opinions on stuff. Otherwise what would this thread consist of? A few people saying they like the colour and somebody asking how much power it has?

If you don't want to discuss a purchase, that's completely fine - you for example didn't want to discuss your new car so chose not to and as a result have not done so.

This applies to motors as a whole and lots of new car threads, not just this one. He didn't ask for advice on the value for money in his latest purchase. He just wanted to share his new motor with us but motors will give him advice whether he wants it or not, even go off and hpi check it and post the results up in an attempt to prove him wrong.

It's so sad.

With you on that. Anyone who can't see it is in denial, this is most definitely the bitchiest sub-forum.

Spent much time in the graphics card forum? :p

Rover had half a chance when they were in partnership with Honda.

Big mistake selling out to BMW.

Cheers again for the replies guys - busy day working on the belts and still not done - but should be done by tomorrow afternoon. I see why it's an expensive job!
Pretty impressed with the engineering of the KV6, everything is very organised, neat and covers are mostly metal with beefy bolts rather than plastic with 8mm bolts I've seen on most other Rover engines - suppose that's why they last.

I find it interesting upon re-reading the thread that people imply I'm 'poor' for owning such a car, think I should be driving a £10k+ motor on finance - yet when I provide figures from my business selling parts for these very cars, everyone goes oddly quiet on the subject.

Sometimes when you have money, you don't want to spend it on a flash car - I'd rather spend it on beer... :)

Lets make motors boring and like the typical bull ******** car club site.

Standard post:
"Hi mate, Loveeee your car! Proper jel! Looks well quick!" (copy&paste every new car thread)

I don't think anyone's implying you're poor, quite the reverse! I can understand why MGs/Rovers are quite tempting propositions for under £1000, the only thing that confuses me is why your Rovers aren't mint. As you say, you've got a business selling parts that's doing well, and you know the cars inside out. Surely it's a great advert for your business if you're driving around in the best condition Rovers in the UK? Plus I'd imagine it would give you a huge amount of satisfaction - it certainly would for me!

Rover nutters

Mate had one kept telling every one it was a Honda and how easy it was to work on which was every weekend

Even now he pines for a Rover, must be like Self-flagellation

There's a difference between that and essentially 'attacking' someone because of their car choice or how they choose to fuel their car passion. It's almost embarrassing just to read some of the posts in this thread, even an 8 year old would be embarrassed, as someone above said if this was a discussion in person no one would dare to say or do those certain things, it's easy to sit on an armchair and flame others behind a username.

What comes off for access to the belt(s) on these?
