A45 AMG Test Drive - First Impressions

For sure the quality gap is closer than it once was.
Rattles can happen for any number of reasons, in my BMW the rear parcel shelf knocks over bumps and makes an annoying noise. The interior isn't falling apart though.

Also, you tend to find the painted silver plastic metal effect trim consoles in Fords, Vauxhalls, Renaults etc.. is actually real metal in German cars. The leather on the steering wheel doesn't melt as it does on all Fords I've driven.

These are trim rattles and some of the fit and finish are questionable, doesn't make a very good impression when you have high flying clients being driven around. Also the metal are not real on every German cars, the so called best interior maker Audi use swathes of painted fake alu trim. But in general yes a Merc will be better in that respect over a Renault as you would expect, but that still don't justify the huge premium, you can't just rest on the laurels of perceived better interior materials, there is more to a car.

So you have actually driven one then to come to this verdict?

As for cost, they can charge what they like as far as I am concerned. They have obviously done the math and think they can shift them at this rate. So good luck to them. Whether its value for money is a matter of opinion of course.

I know the new A class has been the biggest seller at my local dealer, and I would expect the AMG version to go the same way.

The fact you can barely get any discount on them says a lot for the availability and sales...

All of those of you saying the Germans can't do 4WD, I present you:-

Seems Porsche can do it bloody very well, you get the 4WD traction advantage but none of the understeer normally associated with it, Porsche system being primarily RWD until otherwise needed. :)

It's Fox, what do you think? :p

Our '14 S5 has a couple of rattles now at 6k miles and don't even get me started on the F430, it rattles, squeaks and creaks all the time. I get this particularly annoying buzzing sound behind my head with the top up between 3500-5500rpm (no, it's not called the engine).

Ironically, the only car that doesn't squeak or make a sound is the Fiat 500T, 16k miles on that now and not one noise.

fyi 12 weeks and counting for my A45.

Ive been also pricing up a Golf R for the wife, but as of yet she seems to want a MINI. lol.

The A45 seems to be best obtained through carquake, 2k discount if the right dealers can be found.

but as youll all prob Know the wait times on your own specs can be anything from 4 to 7 months, if you get a Pre-reg or dealer sourced car, with their chosen extras, i have friends who have had them in 4 to 8 weeks. Dealers are only allowed to sell 88 a year in group. so thats not many really.

There is also now a factory fitted Brabus remap to 400 BHP at a staggering 2300 quid or 3300 for 170MPH version. the car then gets called a B45. Warranty stays intact.

i Myself will go for rebellions in time, but for the start 360 is enough for me to get to Asda shopping :)

I myself wanted lots of goodies, so had to wait to massive 6 months for her.

Insurance for me is mega cheap at 214 quid for the year amazing cheaper than wifes Zafira Touring.

So where does a 40k car dictate that you shop then? M&S? :p

Silly comment tbh, one thing has nothing to do with the other.

You will find footballer's on 80k a week shopping at Tesco's, a Heinze baked beans from Asda is no different to one from Waitrose, and a 45k car on finance is hardly justifying to go round shopping at M&S for snobbery reasons.

I really dont think that rattles are acceptable on a car such as the S5 at that mileage. Neither my E61 or F11 had/have any rattles, the E61 had one annoying one but that was fixed after a couple of trips to the dealer. My A3 sportback had a fair few reported under warranty from new though and Audi never fixed them.

Food shopping is always an interesting one i find.

I know people with amazing cars, who would happily have the 10p can of beans from Lidl because 'well, its just beans isn't it'.

Savings have to come from somewhere. Unless you are obscenely wealthy, you will do 'something' that is cheap. It's like saying that if you have a £40K+ car you should a full set of Emma Bridgewater plates, with different pattern designs depending on the mealtime and day of the week.

Exactly, my ancient 200k mile 530i doesn't rattle so any 'premium' car that does is surely unacceptable.

My GF's Mini does and it drives me up the wall, it's been into Mini twice now and they've not managed to fix any of them. Grrrr.

Ahh shopping

Funny enough I do order from Ocado, but I do go to asda and sainsburys when I get fed up with online, nothing like going down the isle and throw stuff in.

FYI I did a comparison like for like Ocado tesco and Asda. Exactly same online order.

Asda was 21 quid cheaper. Tesco was the most

So that's why I go to Asda.......now and again, plus it's got macdonalds inside lol

I just shop wherever, don't really look at prices, CBA lol.

But my local Asda seems to be inhabited by complete cretins that make me want to puke. I normally end up in Morrison's, it's a much more pleasant experience and there's generally some decent totty about. :)
