This car is now sold..

Because if the car was cheap it still brings in advertising for the dealer (assuming it is) especially as the ad has already been paid for.

My E39 is still advertised, it's easier to to ignore unknown numbers and random emails than log in, select sold, select reason etc etc

The ad will end soon

Couldn't think of anything worse than getting random calls from unknown numbers and emails.

I know pistonheads and Autotrader like to keep the sold ads on for a while to promote them selfs and to bring people in from google searches.

Sellers/traders tend to leave them on till they can find another car to edit the ad with so they can avoid the new ad fees. Also to promote there business, you see a car selling very cheap, cheaper than normal that is because the seller/trader has sold the car, edited the ad to make the car look cheaper to get people clicking the ad link.

It works.

It's not just dealers though. I've rang a few different adverts for S2000's recently and i've got "yeah sold last week mate". REMOVE THE AD THEN YOU CHUMP.

When I've removed ads from AT and PH they've come off within a day like Fox said.

It's just laziness on the seller's part.

We don't remove ads until the car has been delivered, just in case customer cancels for whatever reason so we can keep log of enquiries against that vehicle and offer in that case.

this has annoyed me quite a bit too. think about 5 cars in the last 6 months, that I've done a bit of research on and then compiled a list of questions I want to ask about the car, have all already been sold when I phoned up. :(

some were sold that morning, but others had been sold even weeks before!

some were even still up for sale on their dealership/garage websites too :p
