Anyone gone back to w7?

no way i would go back to win7, 8 is so much faster and if you desire as i do you can disable every bit of the new interface and have a mimic of windows7 but with a speed boost

Another Windows 8 pre-installed laptop user who went back to Windows 7.. It might sound silly, but it felt like an upgrade. :-D

Not a chance, was forced to go back to w7 for a week or so and it's horrible compared to win8. Stupid SSD died. Then again didn't research the brand so my fault.

I use both sides
Netflix, audible, mail, calendar, weather, audible, youtube, maps, news, package tracker are all far far better in metro. It's not even a contest between them, metro wipes the floor on usability and UI for those.

Whilst gaming, office, file management stay in desktop.

Be interesting when they release a metro office, which I'll use.

I'll take Linux over Win7 any day, infact just did a new fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS(64 bit version) on one of my old PCs ,it installed everything including my wireless drivers ,fast installation as well, infact only Win8 came close to a perfect install like my Linux installation today.

I find it funny how put out people are by windows 8.1/8 - like every os it had its issues at launch but its so simple to use I just dont understand how many of you struggle with it.

It will only get better with updates, everything runs faster and smoother than it did on 7 and once you spend a few minutes setting it up then even metro has a nice feel.

Reminds me of all the people praising vista and how it was better than 7.... that didnt last long.

Its not about struggling with it it seems to be something that some people can't comprehend that not everyone has the same approach to the OS and Windows 8 has polarised it more than ever. For every person who Windows 8 has optimised their workflow theres another person for whom the older style is the more optimal way for the way they approach the OS, no amount of adjustment to Windows 8 would overcome that and even with stuff to put the startmenu back, etc. it doesn't fully give back the same experience - or atleast not with anything I've tried.

TBH if my approach to the OS was from a tablet perspective I'd probably be more forgiving of it, I get on with Android fine, but as a desktop OS it just doesn't seem to have been designed to work the way I work with a desktop OS whereas Windows 7 is far closer to that in every aspect. Which gives me very little reason to use Windows 8 as Windows 7 gives me that without any real messing about.

EDIT: At the end of the day in a wider sphere change is often quite an issue with any OS and a lot of people I've dealt with were resistant to Windows XP to Windows 7 changes but most have over time have got used to Windows 7 and either eventually switched or decided after all to stick with it but with Windows 8 I still get people begging me to swap back to 7 a month or months after buying a system with 8 on it - not every one but a good number.

I have two Linux PCs and two Win8.1 PCs,none are rocket science ,some users want to be spoon fed or don't like change simple as that IMHO.

I'm ready for Win9 already and the next Linux distros,I'm almost 51 so some users would be surprised how I adapted to PC and operating systems without any formal training with ease(we had no PCs when I was at school) ,if I can do it then anybody can providing they are not lazy it's not hard, regardless Win8 is very easy to use.

Staying on an old OS like Win7 is a bit silly, its five years old already and you have to upgrade at some point,so the ex-Win8 users that have gone back to Win7 seems like a stupid move IMHO.

Roll on Win9 I can't wait :) .

Windows 7 isn't 5 years old when you take into account service packs and the constant updates. The difference between the two operating systems is much smaller than you're trying to make out and for the average user negligible. Performance with the varied type of applications I use is measurably no different so it makes no sense to switch to Windows 8, I and most people would be paying for no benefit. As for switching from 8 to 7 why learn to use another interface or install apps to suppress metro or whatever when ones productivity would be higher by using the older os?

Nothing hard or time consuming about a mouse click or two on productivity,as to Win7 release date,
Release to manufacturing July 22, 2009; 4 years ago
General availability October 22, 2009; 4 years ago

Yes getting a bit old now.

Regardless can't wait to see the lame excuses Win7 users bring up with Win9.

It's more than that, but every little hinders.

If you looked at the Wikipedia article you copied the dates from it states SP1 was Feb 2011, which is 1 year behind Windows 8, not really a big difference. You could just as much argue that Windows 8 is outdated as it's two years old and we should switch to Linux instead, release date is not really relevant to anything.

Some users will always moan about something and I stand by my statement on productivity with regards to Win8 being not an issue (being an ex-Win7,Vista,XP,2K,Win98,95,Win3.11,DOS user myself).

My point is every OS has a limited life span that starts from release date etc...As to Linux yes some of us do use that, yes it is updated more frequently then Windows.
Win8 has better security then Win7 in general so another reason not to go back to 7 ,I could also say same for Linux ie that has very good security .

What will Win7 users think of excuse wise with Win9 ,we shall see and too bad no free spoon included for some users.

Win8 is their first hybrid OS,on Win8.1 you have the option to boot to the old desktop so avoiding Metro Start for the most part, the old Start menu is returning to Win8.1 down the road as well so that should keep some users happy,Win8 is very customisable so I don't see it an issue to be honest and I use both, they are all tools to me so I use what I need.

I've mine customised on Metro Start and old desktop like here,(both are screenies before Update 1).

Where'd you get that desktop wallpaper? It's just what I'm after.

I like a clean old desktop even on Vista,Win7,8 etc so Metro Start has its uses.

What's with the huge quote?

Don't see the point in a "clean" desktop like that, it's just a waste of 24" of space that could actually be used for something.
