*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S5 Thread ***

Yep going to hold on for the G3 for now.

Starting to think I'll hold off for now, and then treat myself to the next thing that comes along and truly wows.

I think you'll have a long wait to be honest, the increments in technological advances over the past 2 years or so has stabilized somewhat when it comes to mobile phones :P.

Back on topic, I put the phone to full test yesterday and reached 7.5 hours with heavy usage of games, browsing, youtube, music, texting & SNS. I'm quite surprised at this, I'm not sure how they've done it but it seems to be more efficient than the Note 3. Must be software optimization surely?

Pretty much the same boat, really like my N5 and everything about it is fine, battery life isn't the best ever but I make it through a day, camera is good enough for me, love stock Android so if I got either the S5/M8 I would make it a GPe which makes them more desirable. But I don't think the upgrade is worth £300, the biggest upgrade would be battery life, and camera for the S5, and build for the M8.

Just don't think it justifies the price but I really want a new toy lol.

Totally agree with you there Mate. I feel my N5 is enough for the time being and is just as fast and fluid as the M8.

The only thing that lets it down is the battery life but I carry a portable battery charger so that point is kind of negated.

Will see what the G3 brings to the table and I might get that to stop the urges of getting a shiny new toy! lol

@El1te It was only a matter of time until you bought the S5 seeing as you like all things Samsung. I hope you're enjoying the experience Mate. Now your Mum can keep the M8!

Loving it mate, can't fault it!

Very happy with my battery at the moment.

Currently on 46% charge, just over 10 hours on battery and screen on time has been just over 3 hours, thats with using it to RDP home and play music on the train as well as browsing imgur :)

just curious. what's the average battery life on S5 with medium to heavy use (leaning more on the heavy side) ?

Can easily achieve 6 hours screen on time with heavy usage. Right now I'm on 66% since 24 hours, coming up to 1.5 hours of screen usage with a lot of youtube/sns/gaming. This is all on stock rom aswell, it will only get better once I root and stick a custom rom on there, but for now I have no need to do so.

Edit: Loving the Wireless speeds I'm getting, never managed to reach these speeds on any previous device:

On BT Infinity 80mb package

Expecting my Spigen Ultra Clear case to arrive today so will get some pics of that up later if anyone is interested in it.

All's well that ends well eh Mate?

You should've bought the M8 from Amazon, at least you'd get a hassle free refund.

Yeah I know, I didn't know Amazon had such good CS, I'll definitely be buying a lot more from them in the future :)

I've put my M8 for sale on another forum and there's been no interest in it whatsoever! Quite surprised, might have to put it on here on fleabay instead!

Very impressive. I did very much enjoy being able to get 4 hour screen on time and 48 hours of idle when my S4 was new. Getting 6 hours screen time would be great.

My s3 contract expired a few days ago. Toying with getting an s5. What sort of deals are the best atm? I dont beed any texts or huge data or call allowances. Also do I get 100 quid if I trade my s3 in at the cpwh?

Is the s5 really that bad? See quite a lot of people saying its one of their worse phones, ive got S4 was tempted to upgrade when contract expires but thinking maybe go with HTC next, Not sure.

I hate all the samsung bloatware, Wish they gave an option to not install it.

There's not really anything bad about it as such, just a few things that could be better. I think a lot of the dislike is purely down to the fact that the current flagships aren't a huge upgrade over the previous generation (especially if you had something like the N5 in the middle).

The speakers aren't as good as the ones on the M7 or M8, and the software has a lot of features that people won't use, which confuses some users. Then there's the whole KNOX issue.

Other than that, there's not really anything outright bad about the phone.

is it worth upgrading to from the s3 though?

I've just found a deal that is £33 p/m o2 free handset and ultd texts/calls and 1gb data which is way enough for me.

I'm paying £30 odd quid for the same with my s3 so it'd be stupid to stick with my old phone i guess.

From the S3, definitely. Whether you go for the S5 or the M8 is up to you, but I'd say there's enough reason to upgrade.

It's mostly worthwhile to move from the S4, so I'd say the S3 is a definite yes. The battery and speed increases will be awesome, and the screen should be phenomenal.

This. It's just a very boring update without any new great features.

Needed a better design, a lot less bloat, OIS, root without KNOX trip, better speakers, compact footprint. etc etc.

Had a brief play with my colleagues S5. Am impressed by the screen and and general build quality despite it being made of plastic.

However I didn't like the new iteration of Touchwiz and found that it stuttered in a few places like the gallery application and multi task window where it didn't keep apps in the memory.

I found that the M8 was smoother however more unwieldy in the hand.

Still quite an impressive device and if you're moving from the S3 to the S3 to the S5.
