Motorola Moto G - new budget smartphone champion?

Can anyone help…

1) I unlocked the phone using android tools and Motorola website code
2) I installed colockworkmod recovery tool
3) I installed “cm-11-20140405-SNAPSHOT-M5-falcon.zip” and gapps for kit-kat
4) The phone is stuck in a bootloop at Cyanogenmod startup.
5) I have deleted the “partition cache” done “factory reset / user data” and “Delvik cache” but it still just loops.

Anyone got any ideas what I should try next? To be honest I would be happy to go back to the stock firmware…

try flashing boot.img via fastboot on your pc if you haven't already.

i would say use philz touch cwm and i'd use slim rom as it's easily the most stable on falcon.

Next issue is that I cant transfer the slimkat zip file to the phone. Fastboot works fine but "adb" push commands do not.

adb does not see my device when it is attached via USB and in bootloader. Motorola drivers are installed BTW.

adb only works when the phone is booted...

i think you can try fastboot push xxx.zip [sdcard path] but you'll have to double check.

alternatively, have a look in the TWRP thread, i remember seeing a version that could use usb storage mode so you can access the emulated sdcard

Back to stock kitkat. I managed to restore stock via fastboot and didn't need adb. I then tried slimkat but couldn't get away with the change in dpi so went back to stock kitkat. Once an official cyanogenmod release comes out I will move to that. Thanks for your help anyway tried a couple of recovery images but stuck with philz Cwm as it is definitely the best.

you can change dpi with apps like android tweaker (or init.d)

if you can be arsed, definitely stick with slim!

Ok now I have kitkat setup I will do a backup and have another go with slimkat. Does slimkat also need the gapps.zip package installing? I never hung around long enough to try the play store etc..

just realised, when you installed cyanogen mod, were you installing it before doing the OTA to 4.4.2?

iirc it updates the bootloader too, which is probably why you were having issues.

Setup stock kitkat how I wanted then backed it up and tried SlimKat again on your advice. I chnged the DPI as suggested and now it is all running perfectly. Will keep the kitkat backup in my back pocket just in case but can't see me going back to it.

Many thanks twist3d0n3 for your replies during some tense hours of bricked phone panic.

haha no worries fella, happy to help.

i'm very familiar with that sense of dread that you've bricked your phone, but the GREAT thing about the moto g is you can fastboot flash everything (literally the partition layout, then populate it with stock data), which i've had to do twice already :p

best advice i can give, always ALWAYS leave a backup rom.zip on your sdcard, it'll save you more than anything :)

e: and cloud sync your titanium backups!

The SIM keeps popping out of my sons Moto G, anybody know of a fix ?

( we tried different SIM cards and they all do it )

Do O2 ask you to buy a £10 top up when buying in store? I'll grab an old O2 number if so and buy as an upgrade :D

Will be replacing my Huawei Y300 (yes I'm a fan of budget Android phones ;) ) with an 8GB G.

Picked one up today from an O2 shop, I'm on giffgaff so was going to give them my number to get the phone for £99.99, but their system was down so they weren't able to check, so got it without needing a £10 top up anyway.

Pretty impressed so far, certainly does not feel like a £100 phone!!!! Google now launcher installed straight away, it feels weird without it.

Any way of getting rid of the carrier name on the notification area without rooting?

Got to love the battery life

Ordered an official flip cover in white, will match my poetic slimline case on my N7, also in white.

:D well a third of the battery for 15 hours, should make it to 2 days based on current usage. I normally charge up over night, will keep it off charge tonight and see what the battery level is at 24hrs from now.
