Golf R 400 revealed

I like it, although I'd imagine for the price of a new one there would be a long long list of other cars I'd have over it. Not that I'll be able to afford it anyway.

How much are these going to go for? I would guess they are going to be ridiculously expensive seeing as its a golf that can whoop most sports/ super cars.

Yes that's always the problem with such cars. For the same money I'd buy something else, espectially a premium car that someone has already taken the depreciation on.

What I do like about Golfs though is that every now and then they put in a small detail from a previous generation (e.g. the yellow).

I think they have limited options on the tailpipes now. The GTI tends to have twin pipes on each corner and the GTD has the twin pipes on the left. So to distinguish the hot model then have little option but twin pipes in the middle, ala mk5 R32.

Front looks decent but think it looks naff at the back. Also think the wheels are too big.

Should be pretty awesome though, guessing VW saw the AMG A class and thought yep, we'll have a bit of that. Pricing is surely going to be at around £40k. Would people really pay that for a Golf? A Golf R already seems very expensive.

I would imagine the pricing would be closer to the £50k mark. Roughly the same as that new Evo, and almost twice the price of a standard GTI.

The Golf Rallye was almost twice the price of the standard GTI back in 1990. And the standard Golf, adjusted for inflation would have been £23k in todays money compared to £26k today. So not a HUGE amount different.

Of course, a 1990 Rallye nowadays is worth around 4 times the price of a decent 1990 GTI though. There WILL be a market for these. Just as there was for the £45k Imprezza Cosworth, and the new Evo is already sold out too at £50k. If they do decide to make these, they will sell out quick, and if you are lucky enough to get one, I would imagine your money would be pretty safe for the first 12-18 months. In fact, you'd probably make some money if you sold it within the first 6 months.

Can't access the article but is this still a 2l turbo, or have they used the 2.5 l engine?

Volkswagen hasn’t given many details about the super-tuned TSI engine, but has hinted that it possesses the genes of the company’s WRC engine (although of course that’s a 1.6-litre unit). The power increase means that the 2.0-litre TSI’s specific output has risen to 200ps per litre (197bhp per litre), with maximum power being produced at 7200rpm. Maximum torque of 332 lb ft is produced between 2400 and 6000rpm.

I like it, I'd have one.

Interestingly, the guy from AMG who was responsible for the engine in the A45 now works for VW. I wonder which engine he is currently working on.
