Hi, I'm in the market for a Porsche Cayman S.

I'd like to keep it under £20k if possible, though from looking at OPC cars it appears 25k is the starting point, albeit with a 2 year warranty, so perhaps I should rethink my budget. Is a warranty essential on these cars?

In any case, what sort of spec is essential? I notice nearly everything was a extra when new. I would like at the minimum, climate control, phone integration and heated electric leather. Sat nav isn't entirely essential but would be nice.

What are the handling packages or do they all come with stability management etc?

Any information would be great regarding these, any forums I should be looking at specifically?

Thanks

Mike

I've been looking at a few Porsche recently and the servicing costs are extremely high so go into it with your eyes open. Absolutely get a warranty.

I don't think the servicing costs are "that" high. Not when compared to other premium motors. I mean £400 for the small service (2 years) and £600 for the big one (4 years) isn't exactly bank breaking for running a car like that. Compare that to servicing a 6 cylinder Audi / BMW / Merc and it will all be pretty close.

And yes, the Porsche Warranty would be a must on these cars. They could quite easily throw a big bill at you, and the Porsche warranty is fantastic. Well worth it.

Buy an official used Porker and get 2 years warranty, full Porsche service history (try to negotiate the next service for free when your buying), and you will have controlled your running costs for the next few years.

So yeah, up the budget, and buy right.

About twice the cost of a 6 pot BMW then, but I agree that in the context of the type of car the Cayman is the servicing isnt unreasonable.

I found mine pretty cheap to run, very little went wrong and what did was easily sorted

Not looked but how can a OPC car be £25k min or do they only deal up to certain age

I sold mine for £14k 18 months ago

I'm well aware of the servicing costs :) Appreciate the comments regarding the warranty and inspection before purchasing! Perhaps an OPC car would be the best bet.

Im interested in the spec lists, what is essential etc, for example do I need PASM or is it an option which can be overlooked? I don't intend on tracking it.

The £25k start price is just looking at Porches current used Cayman stock. That was a 2009 model, with the oldest Cayman on sale being a 2008.

£230 for a minor service and £400 for a major service on my 530d. So yeah, less than twice the cost. But still £130 more for your minor and £200 more for the major servicing is nothing when your looking at a car like this.

An extra £330 for 6 years worth of servicing (assuming you buy it having just been serviced, and sell it just before a service, £1000 total for servicing = £167 per year). It's not exactly breaking the bank when you are running a sports car over a diesel estate.

And if you can't afford that extra expense, you really shouldn't even be looking at a Porsche.

This was more directed towards Hades post than the OP, obviously.
