Mondeo ST220 are they worth the money?

My guess is that you are not very experienced when it comes to looking at a new car?

£4k-4.5k will get you a very good condition ST220 if you look in the right places, Autotrader, eBay and Pistonheads will be the best places to look. Feel free to post any of links on here and people will look over them for you.

Your right! only been driving 4 years and purchased 3 Focus's all from genuine private sellers who cared for them so im not good at spotting body issues or bad tell tale signs etc :( thats why i take my dad with me.
I do know a fair bit engine wise etc and the specs or info of most cars. Its also the reason that i like to buy private to see how genuine the owner is and what they have had done over the years etc but most ST220's seem to be at dealer's for some reason.
Yeh been looking on all them every week also gumtree. will do thanks

The X Type is a nice car apart from worries associated with the transfer box and the fact that they rust somewhat worryingly on the sills (all those I've looked at have been quite badly rusted even if the rest of the car has seemed to be very good).

If rust wasn't an issue I'd have had one by now.

How did you go through 3 focuses in 4 years? Were you driving them all into ditches or something :p

Ha. No I got a 1.6 for first car kept it a year then got a 1.8 which didn't feel any different. Sold that then promised myself I would get an St220 missed out on a good one then got bored of not having a car for 2 weeks so seen a 2.0 Focus which are quite rare so bought that and have only had to service and Mot it. Every one has been faultless. The same thing is starting to happen again now though after trying to find a good St since way before Christmas :o

I get 50 miles to £20 (mixed driving)

Sorry this is one of my major annoyances, this sort of statement doesn't help anybody. Fuel prices vary everywhere, you also haven't said if you are on about 95 ron fuel or premium fuel 98+.

I have a friend who constantly does my head in with crappy statements such as "It's really good on fuel, I put £30 in and now its on quarter tank. I've done 100 miles". To me that means absolutely nothing.

How about telling him the average mpg you get instead?

rant over

Who ****ed on your bonfire? It gives him a rough idea.

To help with your mental breakdown, My total average over ownership is 17.6MPG with mainly mixed driving. I do have a bit of a lead foot though. Oh and a full cat back Milltek system that is quite addictive.

Now i have started working some distance away, which is one long stretch of country road i am getting between 22-24MPG , again i don't hang about though :)

People on here can get anything from 17MPG up to around 27MPG on mixed driving (Howard must just drive down hills behind lorries with a strong wind pushing him along 24/7 though).

There we go, :p

ST220 = crap, drives nice but slow, drinks and rubbish brakes

Buy a 330i or Subaru or even something with a 1.8T vag in it and remap it - trust me you will have more fun. Remember your still buying a 14 year old mundingo now

When I had my first St220 my brother had a seat Ibiza fr tdi 130 and from a rolling start he kept up with me all day I could not get away

I've had 2 St220's, and I've owned 50+ cars including bmw e46 m3 and e60 m5 so I think that gives me the right to my opinion , but howard will disagree and tell you there the best cars ever

You're entitled to your opinion. But why did you buy a second one if they're crap? :p

For 4.5k there aren't many better all-rounders. I'd suggest the OP tries one and if he likes it then get one, if not then don't.

The second one was too cheap to say no, I will often buy a cheap second car even if make penny profit because I can will have abit of fun at the same time

£4500 you have ?!?!?

FOCUS ST 2.5T
GOLF GTI
OCTAVIA VRS
IMPREZA WRX PRODRIVE

would be where my money is and for that budget all good examples can be found

Good lucking find a Focus St for £4.5k that isn't a total nail. Same with the Golf too unless you mean mk4.

OP: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...chad/used,nearlynew,new/radius/1500?logcode=p

Very last of the £280 annual tax. I would go check it out and then give them a cheeky offer of £4300 and try get them to meet at £4500.

Thats is he best you will get for your budget and requirements.

thanks for the link. Porblem is i am only just putting my car up for sale this week so cant spend that much £ private untill i have sold mine. Even though i want to buy from a private seller it would make life easier being trade cos im prepared to just trade my car in no matter how much they low ball me. But untill i shift my Focus "sold the previous 2 in 4 days" then my hands are tied for this week with being able to buy private
