The Duchess of Cornwall's brother, Mark Shand, has died after sustaining a serious head injury.

The 62-year-old travel writer and conservationist sustained a serious head injury in a fall, Clarence House said.

Mr Shand had been taken to hospital in New York. Mr Shand was chairman of the Elephant Family, a movement which exists to save the endangered Asian elephant.

He was in New York for an auction.

Why do people constantly post so called news post but don't actually offer an discussion points about the topic. News items such as the recent Malaysian airline are clearly thread worthy and full of interesting discussion despite the tragic news, but this thread just seems pointless. There should be a news sub section for tosh like this...

Some people might find it interesting.

I personally don't find the whole Malaysian thing interesting at all. Plane crashed, people dead, end of IMO. I haven't clicked on the thread and moaned about it though.

Ahh, he was one of those "I have to stare intently at this cigarette until it's lit not caring for who or what I bump in to, as long as I have my ciggy" guy. I dodge them regularly :D
 
Have to say I'd never heard of him. Actually, I didn't even know what Camilla's maiden name was. Always referred to her as Parker-Bowles.

Sad for the family of course though, and very unexpected.
