Painting fresh plaster

Just sounds liek a pre watered down paint tbh mate
Looking at it too, your paying twice the price of the standard contract matt.
I just bought a tub of trade matt, watered it down about 30% and used that.

And that first coat is an utter ballache haha :p

New plaster needs to breathe.

Yes, roller is fine. I played it by ear and did 2 or 3. You can hear & see the water being sucked into the wall!

Just make sure you leave your plaster long enough to dry, before painting. Most people don't. It can take weeks, or months.

Dulux Trade Supermatt also comes highly recommended by people in the trade.

Just buy cheaper B&Q value stuff. Put that on as it's very watered down already. Then leave it 24hours or so. Then get some good quality trade paint and apply it.

Make sure your plaster has been left for at least 3-4 days, if not a week preferably, before applying 1st coat

Just buy some contract matt, water down to thin double cream consistency and roller on.

Once you've got the first mist on imperfections will become clear - fill and sand where required, spot mist filled areas and do an entire second mist coat.

Then paint.

Thanks for all the advise, The walls were skimmed on Monday and they are drying out nicely. Hope to get the mist coat on this weekend and fix the new skirting board as I have central heating being installed next weekend.

Open the windows

Have you got a fan just to keep the air moving in there?

Buy some white emulsion and 50/50 it with water and voila, it's not a sealer it's just to get some paint on the walls, a sealer is a different product if you look at the White Book a mist coat is only a 'key'

Have you bought your paint yet? if not I'd highly recommend http://www.johnstonestrade.com/product-range/product.aspx?product=Covaplus_Vinyl_Matt you'll be wondering if you need a second coat with that stuff.

You're in now don't let us down without progress pics

Prime the back of your skirtings

:)

Personally I'd fix the skirting before painting! You don't want adhesive and finger marks all over your nicely fresh painted walls. If you're just going to mist cost it then fair enough, but certainly don't final coat it before the skirting. Plus you'll need to deco full along the top of the skirting so fix it before painting. Far easier to paint the skirting too first, that way any over paint will be painted over with the wall colour. On new builds I always fix the skirting after plastering. General rule of thumb. Just be patient and let it dry, it will!

Window is open a bit at the moment as im at work but when im in the house i open it fully. I dont have any fans unless i hook up some of my spare pc fans!

So far i have just cheap paint for the mist coat then just some other bog standard white pain't for the undercoat. For the top coat I think we are going to go white with the fireplace in a duck egg blue to match the patten wallpaper that will be going up on the back wall.

I am getting pre primed skirting as that saves a job i need to do. My old man is comming over at the weekend to assist whith fixing the skirting. Then the weekend after i Will have central heating fitted.

Need to start up a full project thread as i have plenty of photos to share.

Thanks for the advise

I meant the wash coat

We were thinking of painting the walls in a white paint with the chalky finish as i like how it looks and fits in with our victorian house. We had loads of tester pots but we both like the craig and rose regency white paint. Anyone use any of their paint?
