England: Who would your 23 men be?

Sky Sports have created a handy little 23 man picker here

I find it quite hard to do tbh, other than Cahill at at CB I struggle who find someone to play alongside him. Terry needs to be there! Jagielka has been injured a lot, Stones is very inexperienced but looks very good. Smalling looked complately lost against Everton but no idea if that was his CB partner or manager's fault. Shame I couldn't pick Cole, he's always our most consistent player at tournaments but Shaw and Baines can't be overlooked.

Midfield, I think picks itself, no players who just put their head down and run, they're pacey but technical. Sterling needs a free role with Lallana and Gerrard/Henderson. Milner can do a job anywhere so will be a decent sub.

Up front picks itself but rather than choosing between Carroll and Lambert I went for the Championship POTY, Ings who is technically very good, he's a wild card, Roy will never pick him but meh, we need someone fresh like Owen in 98. He could be a super sub.

It's hard to get a good balance of players, our strongest position is at left back! I could have gone more like these but given they have no real experience it won't happen (Delph, Morison, Davies, Butland etc)

Here is mine anyway.

Whats yours?

EDit: Just realised I forgot Wilshere, I would have him, Barkley would probably have to be sacrificed. Or Carrick. I suppose it depends on how many holding mids we go for.

I mainly agree with your team. Personally though I think take out Smalling and replace him with the solid wall that has been Curtis Davies. Again, Hodgson would more than likely never pick him but, that's who I would.

Massive shame about Rodriguez because him and Lallana have been excellent all season.

Just been through the selector.

What we need is for Hodgson to go cap in hand to Mr John Terry.

What I think Hodgson is likely to take:

What I would take, with a spare slot to convince John Terry (still the best centre half in England, and the best England captain we have):

Terry won't care, the FA will when we fail miserably. We will anyway but we would be a lot more solid at the back with Terry there.

You can't set precedents like that though, otherwise you will have every player dictating and being a **** and we will turn into the Dutch team.

I imagine Terry will care, you can tell he always cared with the England shirt on.

Rather that than having to start both Smalling and Jones at this point in their careers if Cahill gets injured, there are still question marks over Jagielka's fitness.

Lionheart John Terry? :D haha.

He should not have acted like a ****, like G|mp said, nor should the FA give in and set a precedent like G|mp said.

If Terry wanted to play for England still, he should not have used race to insult a fellow professional nor should he have acted like a tool towards the FA.

For what it's worth, I think Terry's ego does think he will get a recall, if you look at his PR campaign at times this season it's obvious.

Would Terry want to play with the black ****'s though, that's the question. If if he then doesn't get his own way is going to throw his dummy out of the pram again?

I refuse to watch the world cup if Cleverly or Welbeck go.

GK: Pick themselves, however I would be tempted to start Forster, Hart's been well below par this season.

DEF: Terry is a big miss, him and Cahill are solid. I just hope Jakielka can fill in here, I've went for Stones over Smalling/Jones, as he's been rock solid covering Jakielka/Distin for Everton, and has shown more in the 22 games he's played than I've ever seen from Smalling or Jones. Shaw deserves to go without doubt, I'd be furious if Cole went ahead of him. I went for Davies as cover, as again he's been solid for Hull this season too. Flanagan was my other choice, been excellent at LB for Liverpool, but I think he could do a job at RB too.

MID: Carrick doesn't even get close to the 23 man squad in my opinion, why do people rave about him so much? Personally feel Gerrard and Henderson should be the middle 2, they know each other well, and Henderson has been a revelation for Liverpool this season. Sterling has to start on the right, with Lallana on the left. The OX to come off the bench in the last 20 minutes to give a bit pace/power, Barkley could also offer this. I don't really rate Wilshere either, but he can produce the good every now and again, and I'd see him as a potential replacement if Gerrard gets a knock.

STR: Rooney to play behind Sturridge, with Carroll only picked due to Rodriguez unfortunate injury. Sorry but there is no place for Welbeck on my plane, he's bloody awful, and I feel Lambert deserves it more, and Carroll offers something more than Welbeck.

At club level, doesn't he play next to Ashley Cole, Eto'o, Ramires...?

/controversial.

Does Rooney start? Sturridge has looked so good playing through the middle this season, Gerrard, Henderson in midfield and with Sterling on one side of Sturridge playing through the middle.

I'd start Rooney in the first game behind Sturridge, with Lallana and Sterling wide. Can always take him off if it isn't working, and I've love to see his reaction when he was replaced by Ox or even Milner after 25-30 mins :D

Sturridge deserves to be picked ahead of Rooney, but I expect they'll both start.

Interestingly I think our best line up if all available would be:

Forster
Johnson Cahill Terry Baines

Henderson Gerrard
Sterling Lallana Walcott

Sturridge
