Conti Sport Tyre thread

Just put the OEM choice on and be done with it?

The OEM choice for his car is probably the awful Bridgestone Potenza RE050 RFT's. Why would he want to put those on? Not only do they cost over a thousand quid for a set, they are also fairly terrible tyres which ruin the ride and handling of his car :p

Well, if that is the case it makes perfect sense not to! :D

What do they fit when you do not spec RFTs, or is that not an 'option' ?

On the E60 there was no option - you had RFT's with no choice. The only difference was the 19 inch option wasn't offered with RFT's. The OEM tyre on that was either Contisport Contact 2 or Pilot Sport's I think.

Just to revive an old thread. I thought I would share what a woeful experience the CS3s were on the front of the E60. A horrible tyre which wore rapidly on the outside edge and caused a step to appear to the next central block section. This has produced road noise akin to wheel bearings (although my rear bearings were shot too, and have been done).

I find it odd that these tyres have only managed a year, and probably 20k miles, but there you go.

So, I'll be on the hunt for some MPSS for the fronts too.

Sure you don't have alignment issues?

Sport contacts (2 through 5) have always been superb for me, had them on every car I've had for about the last 5 years barring the e46

20k doesn't sound like terrible wear to me though

Edit forgot they were on the front...that is a bit odd

Never had this trouble with either the CS3s or CS5s on the Leon.

I've moved to F1A2s on the Focus though.

I'm still more than happy with Conti's on my car.
It came from the factory with SC2's all around.
I then replaced them with SC5's in 2 steps as the originals got close to the legal limit.
They have always worn evenly and have produced low road noise. Above all I trust the tyres so much in all weather conditions - I know they wont let me down.

But different cars and different tyres.....
Bridgestone REO50's always seemed to get a good write-up. In my old Octy vRS I had a set that wore down after around 8k miles and scared me everytime the roads were wet.

The car does run straight, and the wear seems even apart from this odd "step" in the tyre. Forum rumours suggest this is a common conti issue (especially on Audis), but not sure if that relates to the CS range.

I has SC3 SSRs on my E61 and they were really good. They were miles better than the Eagle NCT5s they replaced which were the best runflat option BMW offered. I got about 16k out of the rears and the fronts lasted for two sets of rears. In fact they were that good that I was really unimpressed with the Assymetric 2 non runflats that I replaced them with (considering how everyone raved about the ride improvement). I found the very outside edge looked worn quickly but apart form that both front and rears wore very evenly.

I've just done this too, and looking back really regret it. The CS5's are better IMHO for our size than the F1A2s

I didn't find any wear issues with the CSC3's I had on mine. They performed fine though like you towards the end I did begin to notice droning noise that made me think I needed a new wheel bearing.

Replaced them with F1A2's which seem better in every way but I had no specific criticism of the CS3 and whilst I wouldnt buy them again its more because they've been replaced by newer, better tyres now.
