looking for a side grade/Upgrade for 7990

would like to go Single card if possible
so leaves a 290X or 780ti. i guess as closet match.
unless there new cards coming?

which card is closer to 7990 performance do you think?

my current 7990 seems to have artefacts after it reaches 81c
(going to see if i can reproduce this constantly) hopefully get it replaced but always nice to have a spare :)

Neither card is an upgrade and really difficult to even be as good as a side grade to a 7990. I know you say single card is a preference, but could you possibly go 2 cards? If so a couple of 290's (non X) or 780's (non Ti) will set you back a little over £600 and be a very good upgrade over even a 7990.

However, looking at the benchmarks the 780Ti comes closer to 7990 performance than the 290X.

Is a 295X2 way over your budget? It is a beast lol.

Smogs your best bet is a 295x2, if you can afford it. Beast card and will trump the 7990 nicely in temps, noise and performance.

A 780TI or a 290X will be a downgrade vs a 7990.

You'd be extremely lucky to get a replacement 7990, they've been eol for a fair while now, at best you'll get the majority of your money back if found faulty.

would never buy a 295x2 hate watercooling :P

so as suggested by five.star

2x 290's or 2x 780s seem to be the way to go for upgrade

what sort of % would be extra? 15%?

Only thing a 290x has over a 7990 is 4GB of VRAM which may halp mantle end but essentially that's only BEEF4, so if you don't play it then not worth it. I'm still hoping a game/driver will sort the VRAM for 7 series cards in BEEF4.

Other than that it's what LtMAtt says. Go on, get yer wallet out and make us all welljel!

Unless there's a game your 7990 isn't handling I'd wait unless your game needs to be 4k res. Dunno what you'd get for 7990 ~£375? Which means the 295 is ONLY £700 to you mucker!

Do it, you said single card and the PCB is the bit of card!

7990 to 290/780 dual cards is anywhere from 25-40+% gain depending on game

I thought you wanted your pci-e slots? The 295x2 would be the natural card. It will be cooler and faster than any 290 or 780 multi gpu combo. Its hybrid cooling as well, so part all in one water cooler (with no required maintenance from you) and part air cooler on the vrms. Go on Smogs, you know what you want one. ;)

**** sake Matt, now I want 1. :( :D

Aye, kinda the same. My 2 Tahiti's are still doing me proud and haven't really run in to a situation where they struggle. Plus the thought of draining my loop down and having to re-assemble, leak test etc. has put me off. Otherwise I would absolutely love the 295X2 with that block pictured on the 295 thread. It is a thing of beauty!

and donate it right?

Me first!!!

I could buy one but I felt sick when I paid £500 for the 7990. Never thought I'd pay that for a gfx card.

II'd say the 295 is for those who don't like WC but like the temp and noise. Stripping GPU's and housing a full custom WC system requires a large case. Only 2 x 780's or 290x's looks cheaper is if you have a case, with WC, have decent 2nd PCI-E lane and distance between them on the board already. 295 rids all headaches allowing all that power through 1 x16 PCI-E 3.0, is factory cooled (well, may I add) and takes 10 mins to install. Extra cost yes but it is the engineering solution you are paying for and for those requiring a major upgrade to run 2x (cards) properly with a MOBO, case, full WC loop, waterblocks and probably a slightly heftier PSU....I think the 295 is an awesome solution.

I have the case for 2 cards but I'd need the rest....so the 295 is cheaper solution for me.

Now, come on smogsy, go and see the Mrs for a refresh on how to spend money!!!
