280X CROSSFIRE VS 290X

All that waffle about power phases and OC potential on the product description hopefully means there's a good reason that you can't hit at least 1200 with AB.

Good luck with the Powercolour tool :)

downloading the powercool app just now as for volts in HWinf64 it has the max volts as 1.200 which im assuming means the volts were not set to 1.250v. should i uninstall afterburner before loading the powercolor software

Sounds like you may be volt locked. If you're feeling adventurous upload both your gpu's bios and ill edit them for you and try and give you 1.3v to play with.

It says this in the product description, so I'd hope not or I'd be fuming if I bought them and turned out that they're volt locked.

Features:-
- Multi Phase Design: 8 Power Phases for improved OC ability
- Digital PWM
- Ferrite Core Choke: Decreases ripple to deliver more stable voltage

Also, could this boost nonsense be having an effect here? I've never owned a boost clock card thank God, so I dunno.

the powercolor program is terrible, you cant make out half the inputted settings or anything.

also in afterburner where you can input a value in the box and press enter you cant seem to do it on powercolor program

Closer than I thought it was going to be, if I'm honest:
http://anandtech.com/bench/product/1074?vs=1059

280X crossfire is near as dammit the same as a 7990 so the comparison in the link should be roughly 280X CF vs 290X.

Whilst this is true, it can be noted that the Tahiti's can pretty much all be overclocked somewhere in the region of 20-30%

The Hawaii's overclocking isn't as prolific, so the lead could be stretched a bit if the cards are run non-stock.

i wouldnt know how to take a bios off a card or how to put it back on thats the only problem i have and its certainly not something ive ever attempted to try before

Use Gpu-Z to save the bios to desktop. Then upload it to sendspace and give us the link to download and edit.

I wrote a bios flashing guide as well. Its for a 7990 but it also applies to 280X cards. Just ignore the part about the master and slave bios.

if you compare the program on the official site

http://www.powercolor.com/Global/download_PowerupTuner.asp

then to my version
