Hi Guys ,

So recently i purchase 250 and 500gb samsung evo 840 ssd's and when i plugged to my rampage iv extreme black i not getting speed as i should.

After installing Samsung Magician i perform benchmark and my speed is around 400/358 with is not even close to 540/520 as should be

i checked device manager and controllers are Standard SATA AHCI controller twice and Intel 600 series chip-set SATA AHCI controller

i also checked in bios and sata is in AHCI mode .

Can anyone explain me why i not getting speed as i should ???
Do i need to setup or install any other drivers ???

Thanks

RAPID mode at its finest - won't get even close to that level of performance in most realworld applications however :(

1824 read, 1439 write on mine with RAPID mode, IOPS are only around 150K but mine is quite full. Without RAPID mode get about 450MB/s read/write and around 70-100K IOPS.

Guys i not talking about rapid mode at all ! rapid mode is different cup of coffee
i talking about basic speed ssd should perform .

Just finished setting up an Evo 250gb myself, this is what I get:

1192 Read
1166 Write.

what is your speed withoud rapid mode and with SATA controllers are u use ???

makesure your on the intel ports, not any third party (asmedia) sata ports

install latest intel rapid storage drivers aswell as the latest mb bios

Ooof I just updated to the latest RST drivers... write performance has dropped through the floor - 468/200 instead of ~450/450 roooooooolllllback time.

Thats the version I was on, gone back to it as the latest version has completely screwed my performance.

EDIT: Redid max performance options in samsung magician and then reset my power, swap file and hibernation settings back to my own perferred settings and back to 510/510MB/s not sure what changes it made :S

The version supplied by my motherboard manufacturer only goes upto 1016 while other drivers use newer versions so possibly a problem specific to my board maybe.

TBH though theres all kinds of things that can impact pure benchmark numbers that won't make any odds to the actual realworld performance of the drive.

The thing that put me off max performance was the page file setting, it sets it back to system managed page file, using 16gb of space on the drive for page file, and even if I try to force it to something like 2gb, it wouldnt take, even after a reboot, it was back at 16gb, and also forces enable hibernation which I dont use, so I set max capacity, that one disbales hibernation and set the page file 200mb to 1024mb.

Make sure you change away from samsung's power management profile in power options, had no problems changing page file settings, etc. back to my prefered settings.

For whatever reason after redoing the max performance option after rolling back the drivers my benchmarks have jumped back upto basically what they where when the drive was new.

Thanks, thats done it, says user defined under OS optimization now, my settings seem to be sticking now, performance is still there too, thanks, glad you got yours sorted too.

Might we worth the OP disabling any anti-virus, etc. temporarily incase its restricting speed problem is theres so many variables with something like this, could even be down to the cables though unlikely.
