Does anyone suffer from homesickness?

Just wondering what the causes generally are. I work away a lot for upto 4 weeks at a time never been home sick.

Lived in Canada for a year and can genuinely say never missed home once. Saddest part of the whole trip was the drive home from the airport at the end.

So sort of wondering why it bothers some people so much. Had some mates move to Australia and post how homesick they are and cousins move to Canada moaning.

Am I just a closet gypsie?

edit - Doh meant put it in GD

That is one thing always traveled alone. Only places I find bad are sort of holiday places as people are already in groups so harder to mingle.

Had a business trip to Vegas was baaad. But drove to Pheonix AZ when off and had a great time.

I get mild homesickness sometimes I think, I was never really a fan of going on holiday as a child and one time even came home early from a family holiday at my own expense.

Last time I went to Glastonbury I went without my wife and I remember on the second day (Thursday) at lunchtime wandering about to find some food, I couldn't find the Aussie Steak stall and ended up getting some dodgy burger. It wasn't the best and I started ambling back to camp feeling a bit depressed (moving about was very difficult as it was a total swamp). I was thinking I really don't want to go through another 4 days of this and was cursing myself for going again. Ended up phoning my wife for a chat which I hadn't expected to do so early in the festival.

Thinking back to our honeymoon there was probably one moment we were homesick too, we'd just arrived in Adelaide having been in Sydney for 5 nights and it was a bit of a comedown - hotel not as nice, much sleepier area, it just didn't feel like a honeymoon should.
