Now I'm not a n00b to the console world. I owned both at release but sold them off a year later and stuck to my roots of PC.
Over the years, Ive had more time away from my home which means being away from my PC and have always thought of picking a console up to use while being away. Friends and family are also all on consoles so being able to play with them would be quite nice.
I'm completely uninterested in the PS4 and XB1 but is it worth picking up a console at this time? I'm also itching to play GTA V and don't think I can wait any longer for word of it from R*.

TLDR, is it a bad/good idea to get a console now?

It's a great idea to get a 360/ps3 right now. Loads of games to choose from and you can pick the consoles and games up relatively cheap!

+1.

Cant see a down side really. £100 nets you either console (2nd hand) with a decent sized hard drive and a years warranty (Game). Not to mention huge back catalogues and games as cheap as £1 2nd hand at the moment.

Can't see a reason not to really, there's some really good exclusives.

Although a lot of them have NOT aged well at all, and I've only really started to play these exclusives, you get games like Resistance one, which while not ageing well, is still a pretty stand up game.

But then you try the first Infamous? And meh, it doesn't seem anywhere near as smooth/fluid/nice as it did when I first had a bash on it near launch :p

Now is the best time I think- some games are ridiculously cheap (I got resistance 1 2 3 for a tenner combined). I'd personally go for a slim (but not super slim) PS3 although o haven't used a slim Xbox yet.

I would try get the console cheap as prices will continually drop, however some great games on offer

Guess ill pick up a XB360 then. I did repurchase a PS3 slim about 2 years ago but sold that later on after people migrating to XB360.
Ill try and pick one up soon.

Go for it. I said to myself for years that once the next gen are released, I'll buy at least one of them right away. I still haven't just because I'm still playing plenty of PS3 games for peanuts (either PS+ or 2nd hand) and I don't know what I'd even buy for a PS4.

I do want one but I know if I was to buy one now, I'd have to buy a £40-50 game for the sake of it and I know that I'd end up playing the PS3 more to begin with.

Now I just need to work out how to get my Sennheiser PC360s hooked up to the XB360. Really dont want to be picking up a Astro Mixamp which is what a lot of people are recommending.

Also, whats a good price for a used XB360 slim? <£150?

I bought a new xbox360 slim for about £156 3 years ago

edit: and that was the 250gb version

What in the name. Prices for new are around £170-£220. I here they S model (which is the one I'm after) has had a price increase.

I bought a new PS3 super slim basic model for £80 from Argos just after Christmas, so they can be had for a good price, even as new.

Games can also be bought for cheap, at steam like prices for second hand. I now have a decent collection of exclusive games, which have turned into a backlog that I'm currently working through.

So yeah its worth getting one now, if the games for the said console are interesting to you.

Personally I'd recommend the PS3 more, my Xbox has seen very little use over the last year or so whereas the PS3 had stuff like The Last Of Us and Beyond: Two Souls. Can't go wrong with either really, although needing a Live subscription to use any online services on the Xbox is annoying.

The S has long since been superseded by the E. I wouldn't be paying more than £100 for a used 250GB S console in good condition though.

After some searching around. Managed to snap up a used White XBOX 360 Slim (not the e model, which is what i wanted) for £90 with 4 games that I'll never play. But all in all, pretty good price I'd say.
Will be picking up some games soon. Very excited to finally play GTA V!
Plan was to enjoy it on PC, but I literally cannot wait any longer.
