Does whatsapp share your mobile number with advertisment companies?

I just signed up to whatsapp yesterday and now I've started receiving spam sms's ( actually via sms not within the app) from gambling websites, has anyone else had this problem? I've never received spam texts before.

nope, but good luck with whatsapp, they are charging people soon, i keep getting messages saying i need to pay for it soon, probably cos facebook have bought them

I was getting them before the take over, basically just ignore them and they keep extending the free period

It's 69p a year. It's hardly going to make you skint.

With regards to the OP - I've never received a spam SMS and I've been using Whatsapp for about 2 years.

As said I have never recieved spam either.

ok, probably just a coincidence then, thanks, just annoying as they say text back "STOPTEXTS" but it costs money to do so so now I have to put money on my phone.

Never had an issue such as a that - Whatsapp has been amazing for me.
100's of my contacts are on it and it's so easy to share images and videos to groups etc.

AFAIK Whatsapp gives you the first year free and each ensuing year is 69p. Well worth it IMO. I only wish they had a web client.

This, it is pretty useless too me at work, have to keep reaching for my phone. I'm slowly migrating my friends to using hangouts.

Forward spam texts to 7726 is free, it's the spam filter service by telcos.

Not sure if it's the same for everyone else, but on my iphone I paid upfront and it's a lifetime subscription?

Very early users gets a lifetime subscription, on both iOS and Android.

I joined in too late so I need to pay. I tried not paying to see if it extended the expiry date, but it didn't work, it just keeps pestering me with a dialog box to pay, and closing the dialog box also exits the app for me. I guess it's different for everyone depending on when you joined Whatsapp.

getting tons of dating spam via whats app.. At least once a day a
"HI im sarah and im lonely in your area wasssup?" etc etc....

not signed anything knowingly totaly unrequested.

I rarely get anything from my contacts via whatsapp let alone any spam. FOREVER ALONE

Been using it for a long time as I have a lifetime account. Never had spam of that kind though. Just the regular PPI rubbish but that's all.
