Got My New Audi A6

Unless it's similar to the Auto-H functionality many ZF8HP fitted cars have (This puts the car in Park and applies the handbrake automatically if you stop, so a bit more than just hill hold assit) I'm not sure I understand what purpose hill-hold-assist serves in an automatic? The gearbox holds the car on the hill if its in drive?

It's generally a feature thats helpful on manual gearbox fitted cars as it holds the car for those few seconds between releasing the brake and pulling away with the clutch. An auto wont roll back when you release the footbrake?

I think it is because they also have the Start Stop feature, so if I was to let go of the brake suddenly the car would roll back a little before the engine kicked in.

Whatever happened to clutch control :(

I can't see me trusting a hill hold assist on a manual. Also sometimes I like to roll backwards without bothering with reverse gear.

Hill hold assist only holds onto the brake for a couple of seconds after you release it, so it's still possible to roll backwards if you want to.

Is that what it's called? Best feature ever. I use it all the time. The only time it can be a pain (in conjunction with start stop) is when I go to engage reverse to park up. The car stops and the handbrake engages, unless you're really quick.

This is what the Audi system does. it applies the handbrake automatically when you stop at lights etc as well as assisting on hills etc. Its great, you never have to worry about the handbrake when you stop..it works great with the start/stop system.

Not on the A6...it holds the brake until you begin to move, releasing the clutch or depressing the accelerator if an auto.

This thread is a real insight, this is yet another trivial feature that's standard on pretty much everything else these days, my 2008 3 Series had it!

And yet as a standard no option E92 3 series you don't even get any sort of multimedia system or a display. I would take MMI over hill hold assist any day of the week.

And it can be done on vcds for free essentially.

Yes, the auto's don't have it as they don't need it.

Not sure if this applies to any of the A6s, but the mechanised manual gearbox in my Golf allows you to roll back on a hill in drive. Hill hold was standard on mine in 2009.

So, Audi claim that it isn't something they would usually fix and that the perspex cannot be changed on its own. However, "as a gesture of goodwill" they will contribute 50% of the cost of the part (the whole unit) and labour involved to replace it.

They are quoting the part at £640 and they will get back to me with regards to the labour involved.

This has now got me thinking... could this be an opportunity for me to change it to the colour DIS?

Only if they do it FOC. I wouldn't settle for them paying 50% of a cost that you should not have had in the first place. Ask to see the original inspection report and ask why it was not noted on it or if it was, why it was not replaced.

So it's going to cost you £320 to put right you new approved used Audi then, doesn't sound good to me. Sounds like they have already admitted it should be fixed by the offer of good will, they just need to pay for it all. They won't upgrade it to colour dis as it wasn't built with it.

If I was to pay the difference for the parts, would it be possible to do? I have been doing some Googling but cannot find the instrument cluster with a colour DIS. To be honest I don't even know if the colour DIS would work with the MMI Radio Plus I have.

you can pretty much retrofit anything in an Audi..whether they want to do it is another thing...given what I have been reading about Reading Audi and there poor CS I would avoid them in future.

I would insist on them fixing it FOC as a gesture of goodwill and your continued custom. Now is probably the time to get hold of Audi on FB and say how disappointed you are in the service you are getting from one of their approved dealers. This worked a treat for me when dealing with a VW dealer who shorted me on the approved extras such as Euro breakdown cover etc...as Fox might remember as it was he that pointed it out.

Colour DIS is great, I love it in his.

From looking at the brochure I've got, the colour DIS option 9Q8 was available on its own for £410, and did not require you having to get the better Plus/High Nav. So I'd guess that makes it retrofitable... but I'd guess it would be replacing the whole instrument cluster and not just the screen.

Megiuares scratch x will get that out. It is great for getting scratches out of paint body work, but it also works on perspex, It takes out most scratches and make that look new again.its about a tenner from halfords. My guarantee it works for you.
