How long does this take. I filled out a P87 form and had it sent back by the 3rd April recorded delivery, it's approaching a month and not heard a thing.

I've no idea, I wasn't being helpful.

I don't think you'll get an acknolwdgement of your claim but you should when the money is paid - although I suspect the fact that your asking about timing suggests that you'll be checking your account balance twice a day anyway.

3 or 4 times I'd say. but on a serious note, never needed to fill out a form, so was just wondering how it worked.

They have an extensive back log. Expect it to take up to 3 months.

Mine have always been 4-5 weeks, and the HMRC have always quoted 6 to me whenever I've asked.

Also you don't (as far as I'm ware) get any kind of acknowledgement before you get your cheque.

My last claim took nearly 3 months. It was a fairly complicated claim though - about £20k - post voluntary redundancy.

They take absolutely ages. They always say they will do it automatically, but normally takes a few months at least, and me having to chase them up about it.

It took a while when I had to send off, I didn't trust their "We'll do it automatically" line. If you want to chase it up, just ring them.
