I'm coming back to the UK for my wife to deliver our child this July due to complications and she is delivering in Newcastle, so I am driving from here to there.

Now my Tax for the car is down in Hertfordshire at my Mother's house where my car is still registered in the UK. I will be picking it up on the way through, but my question is, I know that the police can stop and impound the car if you have no valid insurance, but can they do the same for displaying tax?

I was sure they couldn't, but it's been a while.

Valid MOT, car insured but my Tax is not on the car, so I should be OK right?

Unless they have a reason to pull you and then you really annoy them then they won't even notice, as long as it shows as taxed in the database you'll be fine.

They're highly unlikely to take the car away from you since it IS taxed & insured. IME the worst you can expect is a telling off at the roadside and being reported for not displaying the tax disc.

Given that they are abondoning the tax disk in 6 months i they might be a bit more lenient on it.

Not quite sure how the tax disc being scrapped in October has any bearing on their leniency in April?

There is an offence for failing to display a valid tax disc, so there is certainly the potential for you to get done should it be noticed by a busybody traffic warden or a policeman having a bad day, but generally you should be ok.

this is the same with bikes, many people dont display it and never gut questioned about it unless you come across a real arse!
