Teacher stabbed to death at Leeds high school

And listened to heavy metal music! - A sure sign of Beelzebub!

It is important to remind people in these threads of the established fact that throughout history there were no murders, rapes or violent attacks of any kind until the twin evils of heavy metal and video games destroyed our tranquil Eden. Any attempt to deny this is simple hysteria by those clearly in thrall to Satan.

I don't like the name of that DM writer, it's ridiculously close to my own name :(

Just remove the "in".

Also, what the ;

I've played these games literally for minutes, but that's not the aim of the game?

Shame that a tragedy is again being used to tarnish the video games industry.

Although the DM article is so cringeworthy I do believe that kids are so de-sensitised to violence that it's natural that some would think less about this sort of thing.

i can be pursuaded to think that gaming before you are old enough for the game may be part of the issue. Is that kid not too young for dark souls????

Not really, he is 15 and the game is rated 16, there's no in-between rating between 12 and 16 so it doesn't really mean much when a few years ago it would have been rated 15 under the BBFC. On top of that the world isn't anything like our own and there's barely any humans in it. Obviously it varies between person to person but I'd say 15 was old enough to play Dark Souls, the issue here is with his mental health and any number of other problems rather than games.

I don't think so, I've seen the most horrific things possible in my time on the internet, so much so that it barely bothers me any more but I wouldn't think for a second about hurting anyone and I doubt I'd be able to handle seeing it when I'm not behind a computer screen, for whatever reason some people like this will always exist. I think it has more to do with dodgy wiring in their brains than anything they've seen. There's certainly no more murder and horrific things now than there have ever been before.

But the keystone of your moral upbringing had probably been established at that stage.

Imagine viewing such images without a sound early moral grounding.

Exactly isn't this what happens in South Africa, I was listening to a radio interview the persons name escapes me might have been reggie yates talking about how de-sensitised they are to violence, that stabbing someone is like cutting any other piece of meat.

People always use the same argument, "well I play COD and I haven't killed anyone". Like you say it's not like we have all been bought up the same way.

It's pretty obvious as a country we have a declining moral standard and are desensitising our young to violence. So it's no surprise when something like this happens, thankfully it's fairly rare that it takes someones life :(

I imagine they thought twice about it when he had just stabbed someone to death.

He apparently made no attempt to flee and had dropped the knife at his feet. I'd have thought that was an ideal opportunity to give him a good kicking but nevermind! :)

but the younger someone is the more likely it is that they can be rehabilitated.

Not actually true. The younger someone is when they have thoughts and urges about needless killing the more etched they become into the persons mind and life as norm.

The news story states he made posts that a "random teacher" would get it. This immediately rules out any kind of justification or reason. The fact that he was a "loner" as someone mentioned has nothing to do with anything; I knew dozens of absolute loners during school and none of them had urges to kill people.

The emotion which makes you irrationally wish death upon people you hate is separate to the moral fibre which reminds you killing people is wrong. It is possible that this child hadn't been taught these values. The fact that this kid had a depressed "loner" lifestyle paired with the fact that he posted prior threats indicates that he had managed to think long and deep and believed killing will make him happy....

...Once you have managed to rationalize random killing, and then enjoy it as an emotional release, you're ****ed forever in my opinion and you shouldn't be near society. Rehabilitation can work but it only works in cases where something sparked a sudden overpowering emotion causing the murder. Such as a drug dealer murdering a rival upon finding him in bed with his sister, for example. These types of people can be reminded though that the killing was wrong, using guilt. Yes he killed a man (which is still wrong), but only to satisfy an immediate situation specific emotional response; this contrasts with killing to satisfy your baseline everyday emotional cravings.

Before you can think about rehabilitating him it needs to be ascertained by a professional whether the child enjoyed the murder and if it satisfied his needs.
