GPU for Watchdogs @ 2560x1440p?

I currently have a 7950 DCUII which has been great for the past 2 years. However I have recently upgraded my older 1920x1200p Dell monitor to an ASUS PB278Q - 2560x1440p.
With watch Dogs out later this month I'm looking for a worthy upgrade to be able to play this game at ultra settings at 1440p.
As Nvidia are now offering the game for free with their line of cards I am thinking of getting the EVGA GeForce GTX 780 SC ACX Superclock; at £409 its just about in my budget. However I would like to know would it be worth getting a 780Ti instead? or would the 780 be powerful enough to run the game at ultra settings?

Not really a fan of SLI/Crossfire setups, plus noise/heat is a factor for me. I am not a fan of the Inno3d HerculeZ 780 visually, but it is going for £379 this week! and after reading some reviews looks like it has some real OC potential which brings it very close to 780Ti performance level.
 
Yeah the Inno3d OC's very well and benches better than my 780 Lightning. That cooler is simply incredible too, sacrilegious of me to watercool it really...

7950 crossfire is a very respectable setup though not to be discounted. So long as you have a decent PSU another 7950 can be had for £150odd!
 
7950s are awesome cards, im able to downscale 4k games and max out most detail on Dark Souls 2 ans still maintain solid 60fps. For the money they are, they seriously are a no brainer to have two of them. They chew up any game I throw at them.
 
2 x 7950 here - Excellent running 1440. :D

But did find that watercooling was essential in keeping noise and temps down.

n.b. loop , rads etc can be re-used of course.:)
 
I ended up getting the EVGA GeForce GTX 780Ti Superclock ACX (going for £509 this weekend!), and selling my 7950 to a mate for £100. With a free copy of Watch Dogs! I can't wait for the 27th.
 
A second 7950 is obviously the cost effective way to get a boost. But I would wait for the game to launch first and then see what is required at your resolution.

Ubi are normally poor at their pc optimisation. With ACIII I still get the odd dip below 60fps in boston with SLI 780ti. I doubt you'll get 60 fps constant in an open world game like Watchdogs at 1440p and high settings. I would say expect to adjust some settings to keep 60.
 
Sell the HD 7950 and upgrade to a R9 290 or GTX 780? Or if you don't mind the issues crossfire has get another HD 7950 but I would stay away from crossfire.

Yeah I agree, AC3/4 both ran poorly even when i was gaming on my old dell monitor at 1200p. However with AC4 i tweaked some settings using RadeonPro and dropped the shadow detail and AA which gave me between 45-55fps with all other settings on very high.
Ubisoft say the PC is the lead platform for watchdogs so I hope its optimised better than the AC games.
 
It's a shame that AC4 wasn't very well optimised for PC, but it's still one of my favourite games - looks incredible too, graphics are amazing.

With 2 EVGA SC 780s at 1440p I manage just over 60fps with everything at max settings apart from PhysX (set to low) and AA (set to 4*MSAA), really hope Watch Dogs is better optimised for PC - it could be that it's more focused towards PC gamers given that it was just revealed that it will only run at 30fps 768/900p on XBoxOne/PS4 respectively!
 
I've got my 780ti installed and it was working great last night, tested 5 games. However today either wile playing a game or sometimes on boot I get a no signal message on my monitor. Its like the gpu goes to sleep, but when it happens while playing the game i can still hear the game running; but the display goes blank.
Has anyone else experienced this?
 
Sounds like something has come loose. If you reboot without touching anything does it give a display? Can try the other socket on the card also...

Just out of curiosity are you using HDMI connection?

Reason i ask is from what you explained is something i experienced in the past when connected via HDMI a few times. Went to DVI and not had the problem ever since.

Just thought it might give you something else to think about :)
