Hi guys, i am mid build and just bought the above model off the cuff without researching it first as the price was really good and was within my budget.

However upon starting to plan my water cooling setup i have run into difficulty in getting a full water cooling solution for this model.

Does anyone know if there are any other verified full water blocks with back plates that will fit as i can't seem to find one anywhere and information is limited.

It is the Windforce triple fan design design but don't know if it's on a reference board.

Any help much appreciated.

I'm under the same impression to be honest, i've contacted xspc who have no plans to make them either, it's a shame really as the card itself is a good performer for a mid to full range gaming system.

I'm even having trouble finding a back plate if i have to stick to air cooling.

Unfortunately mid range cards which are non reference don't get much attention from water cooling companies as water cooling the card can cost as much as the card itself, the block alone on mid range cards costing up to more than half the card price!

Anyone know if the pcb is the same as the 7870 or are there differences?

I was reading an article which says that this card is exactly the same.

Checked it on EK for you.

Doesn't seem to make one for non-reference board like yours.

However, they do make blocks are R9 270 reference boards, and they are the same as 7850.

My advice will be sell your card now and get a reference board r9 270 and OC it yourself.

As for backplate, check ColdZero, they should do the backplates for you

Unfortunately this is how it is, they just seem to aim for the "full of money" buyers..

Thanks guys, really don't wanna sell it atm, as i only got it last week and plan to crossfire it in a few weeks.
I just wanted to water cool them as i've only ever had cpu cooled systems in the past.

I can make do with air cooling for the time being and can always look at the nzxt cracken setups if required but as an enthusiast i just wanted a nice clean looking system with a personal touch so it didn't look to out of the box.

i'm working with the H440 case and have to say it's been a bit of a ball ache configuring a loop up till now without the 5.25" bays and needing to retain the hard disk caddys.

I'll just reconfigure my loop and have a look at those backplates! really can't thank you enough for that coldzero suggestion, how have i not found this before? awesome site.

Woah, planning to xfire your new 270x 4gb so soon?

I would just DSR it and grab a 290 instead with the Crossfire cash. Xfire 270xs gives roughly the same performance but the extra ram on them and the heat from crossfire makes for dead weight when clocking two cards.

Single 290 + waterblock imo would leave you with a better set up with less complications. After it is all clocked up it would beat the 270x's by a fair margin i would think.

What can i say i'm a skinflint when it comes to these things, wouldn't say i'm a hardcore gamer but light gaming in the evenings mainly.I'm a bang for buck type of guy.

Whilst the performance is equal almost there is still nearly 100 quid difference in price having only paid £184 for this one with bf4 game free.

With the extra 4 gig of ram in crossfire bringing total to 8 gig, it would come in very handy for my work, which is mainly web and graphic design, video production and such like.

The windforce fans actually do a very good job of keeping the card cool all be it a little on the noisy side at times and will also have a good inch spacing between the top of the fan shroud and second card.
Most of the time my side panels off to be completely honest so plenty of airflow coming in.

Would you not consider DSR ur card and go for an reference r9 270?

I think the X version is just overclocked but if you put it under water you can overclock it to match ur windforce anyway can you not?

Just an example: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-169-PC&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1982
EK does have a block for this card.

Not how Crossfire works, you will effectively have 4gb still with Crossfire. A single 290 or 290x would have more bandwidth since its the same amount of memory but with a 512bit bus.

Windforce cooler does not expel the air out of the case, so windforce Crossfire set ups can get toasty, but ts not like these 270's run hot anyway.

All sorted now, gonna stick with the 270x and maybe get a another in the future, undecided as of yet. Shame i couldn't get a full water block for it to include in my loop but having a custom back plate made up by the coldzero link that was posted to tidy up the appearance.
Nice to see a site where nothing is to much hassle if they don't stock to fit, the guy just sent me the dimensions needed and after some careful measuring sent them off. brilliant service!
