Cycling London to Shanghai - Part 2 Asia

Excellent stuff. Glad the Iranians are taking to you well, hope you enjoy your travels through and I look forward to hearing more.

Working on an update for tomorrow :) more adventure this week, even more incredible hospitality, sorted almost all my visas in Tehran and was then in a coach crash on highway. No one was seriously injured fortunately.!

I agree, a great read.

James if you get chance, what was the reason the cassette required removing for the snapped spoke on rear drive side? Was it a case of the spoke not being able to attach to hub as the metal being in the way?
(i.e if this would have happened the other side it would have been ok?)

Thanks,

Yeah the cassette physically blocks you being able to feed the spoke into the hub. Some people carry a couple of spokes where the flange has been filed down into more of a hook so you can hook it in but I think this would be a lot weaker.

I'm now carrying a cassette tool but not one mounted on a handle. I will still need to borrow a wrench from somewhere to do this repair next time but at least I won't have to ride to the first city with a bike shop.

The hospitality of the Iranian people is very interesting to read! It reads like an amazing journey. not something i could do on a cycle maybe a motorcycle....

Stay safe, and hope to read the next update soon

Another amazing and enjoyable read. Fantastic hospitality being shown by the Iranian locals too. Great stuff. So sad to hear of another cyclist losing their life at the end. Keep safe.

Was a shame as I'd seen all the Iranian cyclists I know on facebook trying to track the guy down for weeks as he'd been missing. Real sad it ended that way. At least it was an accident though, it was initial rumoured as a a hit and run.

No worries nice to know people are following!

I've head a great time using Warmshowers, hope you have fun hosting/guesting. I plan to host as much as I can when I get home to give back.

On that note a new post :)

Riding on the Iranian Caspian coast as well as running into Adventure Motorcycling legend, Austin Vince!

I've been reading this all the way through and it's been a fantastic read so far. Thanks for taking the time to write it. Sounds like you're having an awesome adventure. :)

A pleasant reminder as well that the majority of people, in all countries are good, well mannered and helpful people. The hospitality you've received has been immense. :)

Hope everything is still progressing OK.

Yup still alive! Just very little internet! I'm in Shirvan in Iran and will be in Mashad in two days and taking two days off where I'll do a blog. Should be a big one as it covers about 700 miles!

Had the worst food poisoning of my life and had no option but to ride with it as I have visa dead lines. Stomach cramps whilst cycling are seriously horrible and darting of into the bushes has become routine.
