Z4 - 2.5 vs 3.0

Any big differences in the Manual over Auto.
ie, is the Auto box, made out of chocolate, with a Single or Double clutch?

I am considering one of these, or alternatively an S2000.
No hurry yet, still need time to save.

I was thinking the S2000 as well. I went to see one today but I can't help but feel it looks rather dated :(.

I've driven the 3.0l and it's a lovely engine, silky smooth and good power. Never buy the slower model as within a few months of ownership you will be wanting more power.

Problem being that going from 110ish bhp to 265 is quite a big jump. 175bhp sounds like a decent upgrade, but if it's a lot harder to sell on then that might be tricky.

Don't worry about the jump, you get used to it after a couple of days and at no point will you think this car is too fast/dangerous.

Tip : ditch the run flats when it comes to changing tyres.

Don't get me wrong my last s2k was a great car, I actually enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. It was a big step down for me and was essentially a freebie which kept me on the road. It's a fantastic car to introduce you to convertible life, fast, capable and engaging. But its rawness and lack of comfort/luxury was what irked me.

The very first second I sat in my Z4 I knew it was the natural progression from s2k.

Plus it has a much larger boot for all my tongs and curlers.

I too have now had both. I have to echo willgill. The Z4 is just better. Then again i was always one to go for upgraded interior fittings and torque over revs and plastic, so its obvious that it suits me better :o

I've had my 130i with the 3.0 265BHP variant of the engine for a little over a year now, I'm not regretting my decision in the least. It's a lovely car to drive, the balance, power and, with a tyre upgrade, grip is fantastic.

I can honestly say that the power level is ideal for the car, any more and it would be a bit unruly, any less and the smooth power delivery would make it feel slow.

I agree on the z4/S2k, as an all rounder that you'll drive to work and back then have a bit of fun at the weekend I'd have to take the Z4.

If it was purely a second car or I was willing to make that sacrifice for a more lively feeling car that I would give death every day it'd be the S2k for both engine and handling imo, even though there's ultimately little in it in terms of outright pace, with someone as ham fisted as me driving anyway

With Z4/Z4C's, anything in particular to watch out for with high mileage ones (ie >80k miles)?

They are almost the same mechanically as other old gen BMWs such as the E46 3 and the E39 5, so no not really, they are very solid cars :)

Which one? the 3.0si?

I drove both (3.0 and 3.0si) and the si is quite a different car in many ways, all of them better :)

Si was the one I tried. It was quite refreshing have a fair amount of power throughout the rev range compared to the VTEC engines I'm used to.

Sounded amazing and very refined. I'm sold!
