Good morning!

I built a new gaming rig last week, and I cannot get the graphics card to work.

My spec is:
Intel i7 4770K Processor
MSI Z87 GD-65 Gaming Mobo
MSI R9 280X Gaming 3G BF4 Graphics Card
16GB 2400MHz RAM
250Gb SSD
1Tb HDD
1000W Modular PSU

I've managed to install all components, and successfully run Windows 7 SP1 64 without the graphics card, but as soon as I insert the card (with power off and PSU lead removed) and try to start up the machine, neither the HDMI from the motherboard or the graphics card work.

As a note, the mobo HDMI leaves the monitor searching for a signal, and when using the GPU the screen says there is a signal, but it shows either nothing, or purple or green vertical stripes on the display.

Has anyone had this issue before?

I've tried to register the items with MSI (to get some customer support), but the product registration center isn't working.

Many thanks,

Jax C

Update to the latest BIOS, I had a similar issue where one of my cards would never post as primary, but would work as secondary crossfire.

When I put it all together (minus GPU) I updated all firmware and bios etc. to the latest versions :(

I'll have another look when I get home though.

Thanks for the fast reply!

Missed the bit about the green stripes, that screams faulty card or faulty PCIE slot to me.

Can you get in to the BIOS, and does it have an option to disable onboard graphics?

Unfortunately I'm at work at the moment.

When I get home, I'll give that a go, but first I'm going to try using the DVI port instead of the HDMI.

Also, do you have any idea if i could use a different PCI port for it, or does it have to be port 1?

Cheers,

-Jax C

Problem Solved(ish)!

I used a DVI cable, and it worked straight away!

Once I had installed the drivers and CCC etc, then the HDMI started working.

I've got no idea why this is the case, but I'm just glad I resolved it!

As a side note, on start-up, nothing appears until the Windows 'Welcome' screen - no BIOS screen (as if on a secondary monitor). Is there a way to change this?

should be in the bios, an option to get the start up screen.....keep pressing delete when you first start the pc...that should bring you start into the bios.
