Burst water main near work so no running water at work.

Have about 50 staff maybe more

No running toilets, drinking water

Local schools have sent kids home.

So what does the law say...do we get to go home?

If they provide bottled water and wc facilities I'd probably stick it out.

I kid, any excuse to go home, tell them to frig off - you can't work under those conditions. They can't expect you to go all day without a drink or a dump.

Dunno what the law says but with no WCs we'd send people home (some could have medical conditions, etc.) though if we could provide temporary alternatives we'd stay open if enough staff volunteered to stay on.

Water wise (assuming it was just drinking water and WCs weren't a problem) we'd go out buy some from the nearest supermarket/garage and only send staff home if that wasn't available.

pretty sure legally you should be sent home if there genuinely is no toilet facilities available.

Water mains don't burst in the South?
No, they don't.
Work gangs drill through them instead!!
Not my department, though. I'm at the other end.

OP - If the water is going to be off for a number of days, nip out to the guys working on the burst and see if their company can/will supply water and facilities.
