UK Border Agency fails again

Urghhh that slope in Gatwick...

You think you are nearly home free, nope, you have to negotiate another 10 miles of snaking queue BS.

So how often does this occur?

Unacceptable queues at Border Control happen quite often I seem to recall. I know we somehow managed to sort it out for the Olympics but now it's just the small people who are affected they seem to be reverting back.

We have border controls? Ya wouldn't have thought it.

If the principle job of UKBA is to keep people waiting for an unacceptable length of time before letting them in then we have the best in the world :)

You really are making a mountain out of a molehill here.

It's not as serious as the situation in Ukraine at the moment, but I think if you ended up stood in a queue for four hours (supposedly what Gatwick are now telling passengers to expect) then it would probably be on your mind a bit, especially if traveling with old people or young children.

We're no longer called the UKBA, it's just the Home Office. :) Anyone who has used out systems knows that it's a pile of crap and not fit for purpose. Someone mentioned using Macs, we still use fax in some departments :D

Bit of non news. I was in Gatwick at the time yesterday afternoon and although ex-EU passengers were waiting for hours it was 40 minutes for EU passengers. They were handing out water and families with kids were being processed in a separate gate that they opened up for emergencies.

So sure, apparently we're rubbish with our borders. Grass is always greener I suppose....

The only country I've visited with a better airport/ border system is Canada. The UK is miles better than everywhere else I've been. Sure, every now and again there are problems, but compared to the carnage at most other international airports on a daily basis we usually have it super easy.

And the other day East Midlands had passengers standing around for a lot longer than that because a freight plane fell apart on the runway. Incidents happen, stop trying to force an agenda here when there isn't one.

My experience of flying is that the UK has by far the longest waits at border control. Even at the notorious US border control I seem to get through quicker than I do at Gatwick or Heathrow.

Would you rather we quickened the pace and skip a few checks ? How about only checking the BRP's of every 3rd male who has brown hair ?

If you're an EU citizen and/or have a Passport with a biometric chip inside of it, you can use the fast track lanes when they are open.
