Tempted to upgrade my GTX 670.

I could if I wanted go 780 and sell the 670, but at 1200p resolution, 9/10 games are running flawlessly at more or less maxed out settings too.

But of course the temptation is there to upgrade.

In general SLI works flawlessly? Are most modern games supported? When it's not supported, will it just run as good as one card or can it make it worse?

The reason why Im a bit reluctant to go 780, is becuase, of Maxwell on the horizon and DX12 some time next year.

Would love to upgrade for the Witcher 3 game. But would probably be wise to wait it out untill the game arrives.

I also have a 3570k cpu. Maybe the wise choice is just go sli 670's?

yes it works well and scales well. you made find new released will take a little longer to be fully supported and optimised.

in your current setup at your current res most games will probably see a small boost but not much. Crysis 3, farcry3 maybe bf4 and the witcher 2 will certainly improve in speed even at 1200p. You'll also be able to bump those AA settings without so much of a hit on SLI.

Really the money in two cards is in resolutions above 1200p however with 2x 2gb 670's you're in the funny area of cards that can crunch the data @ resolutions above 1200p but don't necessarily have the memory buffer for it.

imho I'd get another 670 (for the right money and then £20 below it) and hold out for bigger and better when the 880 is out at which point you'll probably overall the lot

From what I've read on this forum, Opeth, to take full advantage of all games in SLI you'll need a cpu with hyper-threading.

One of the reasons it doesn't seem worth it to me, is the fact stated above; new release often don't support SLI. There would be nothing more annoying than having half your GPU doing nothing when you want to enjoy your brand new game.

For that reason, I'm out.

You only really need an i7 with sli in a few titles at present, bf3/4 and cysis 3 are ones that show good gains. Found this with sli and a 3570k so switched to a 3770k as i play theese games a fair bit. I then moved from the sli gtx 670's to a single 780. Max fps are down a bit but minimum and averages are pretty similair. Im seeing less power use and less heat in the system. Noise wasnt a big issue as my cards were non reference gigabyte wf models. My resolution is also 1920x1200, in games i played vram use wasnt a problem either with the 2gb 670's. Though this could well change in newer titles. If you can source another 670 at a decent price, and you have good case cooling and a psu upto the job, id say it would be a nice upgrade to tide you over till new cards come out.

The list of SLi supported games is growing all the time theres about 312 at this moment by Nvidea Games - http://www.geforce.co.uk/games-appl...ort_bef_combine= &sort_order=&sort_by=&page=4

As setter has mentioned BF3/4, BLPOS 11, MW3, WAR THUNDER and the list goes on, apart from games.

If you want to go 2560x1440 or bigger 2xGPU's at least 3GB Vrm a card, even a 780 GB 3GB can't can't do it alone as it has not got enough horse power.

As you game at 1200 as some have said go for anothe 670 2GB.

I went SLi 670 4GB as like you l wanted to try it but also know l was upgrading my monitor to 1440 in the near future.

With regards to 670s and 2560x1440, whilst the 2GB of RAM is an issue, it's the memory bandwidth available that's the biggest issue.

That aside, SLi support is very good and works in a lot or most games, but getting a second 670 isn't really a wise decision due to the low memory bandwidth and VRAM. You will see performance boosts in games where the cards aren't being throttled by the RAM and bandwidth, but it isn't going to be something that will end up being worth while long term.

I currently have 670 SLI and its the first time I went SLI aswell. I have not had one issue, it has been perfect for me. They have been great, and I would never go back to having just one NVidia card. The 2gb is a bit of an issue now when I play a heavily mod skyrim, and crisis 3 struggles at max settings in certain areas. I also have a 2560x1440 and its only the two games that I noticeably struggle with at max settings.

I happily ran 680 SLI with no issues. The odd game doesn't scale that well (FarCry 3 for instance) but generally, no probs at all.

The memory is fine as well at 1080P and doesn't hinder performance. The higher the res you go, you drop down the leaderboard so to speak but unless you hit the VRAM wall, you will be fine.

FYI if you don't like messing and tinkering every now and again, stay clear of SLI or crossfire. Sometimes is needs some TLC

Or go and buy an XBOX haha - joke, joke, calm down

I'd recommend both SLI or Crossfire now. Most major games support and those that don't generally don't need it. Scaling is almost perfect too. Just stick to two as three or four becomes a nightmare

Good luck

I'm still running GTX670s in SLI @1200p and they are faster or as fast in most cases than a single GTX780/titan at that res.

Get another 670 unless you are moving up a resolution IMO.

If your going to keep your monitor, then yeah another 670 would be good, but any higher res than 1200 you may need to look into other options.
Have you thought about selling your 670 and using the money that you was gonna buy another one, for a single better card. Maybe a 290 or if budget can reach a 780/Ti?

Was watching some game play of Watch Dogs on you tube last night, and I just cant see my 3570k and 670 struggling. (Obviously turn settings down)

I don’t know why games coming out now all say 'needs an i7' (Wolfenstein) because an i5 is basically the same as an i7 minus the HT. (Obvious statement of the day)

They said the same for BF4 and well after some optimisations it runs perfect on a 3570k.

However much I want to upgrade, I think it's wisest not too. Wait for the games to actually launch, next gen cards to launch and take it from there.

No point upgrading the 3570k to a 3770k is there?

Ahhhh or I just pick up a second hand 670 of the members market and be done with it!!

I'd wait for the game(s) to release, then make a decision. It sounds like nothing is struggling much on your current spec. Even without hyper-threading, I think you'll still see benefits; it's just a number of people around here have said they saw a greater level of gpu utilization once they switched to a 3770K, or whatever.
