What happened to music nowadays?

I have just been listening to Blind Melon, Crash Test Dummies, Def Leppard(bit older), Pearl Jam, Black Crowes.

These were bands producing good music with skilled musicians that could actually play instruments.

Now we have groups like Mr Probz, Cash Cash, Neon Jungle, Kiesza - I had to google the top 40 as I stopped listening to popular music years ago.

Why would we divert into plastic engineered auto-tuned music from groups that have no talent and produce gash music. Is there something I am missing here, is this a political thing or what determines the current music in society. I can't quite get my head around it. I take it it's people like Simon Cowell that mastermind the whole genre of music?

Society dictates big music. You're looking in the wrong places for the music you enjoy. There is still good music out there but they're in places like YouTube etc. you need to go for small artists who sing what they want to sing because they're not being forced to do it.

There's a load of good artists out there that play and write their own stuff. It's just that the fad right now is manufactured tripe. I always thought the 90's produced the best music but I was a youth then and it was my scene. I'm sure the youth of today would say that the current music scene is the best ever, just like my parents keep saying the 60's was the best. It's all very subjective.

There's plenty of good music, it's just the "popular" music nowadays is aimed at children so most of it consists of adults acting like teenagers acting like adults.

You have a massive case of nostalgia, there was plenty of crap around then like there is now. There are plenty of talented bands who write there own music out there but they aren't exactly "in" at the moment so will not be in the top 40.

this. there's is so much access to production now I love the music scene.

It's all very subjective. I doubt there is any major increase in rubbish now than there ever was before. Thing is, music you like was more popular in an era that haas came and gone - it doesn't mean it's not around now or that there is any less of it.

It's the same things when people think of '80s music' , '90s music' etc. It's nonesense. There are as many albums from the 80s, 90s, 2000s from all genres I listen to - but for a number of years some of them gained maainstream popularity.

It's all still there, always has been and probably always will be.

90% of what I listen to is not very well known but many have been going for decades and are still going strong. Plenty new ones making good music too

don't be such a lazy ****er and pull your finger out. you can't expect the charts to match your taste through the ages. there's more music available now than there ever has been and it's right at your fingertips. if you can't find something new that you like, something is very wrong indeed.

It's hard to pick a time period where there was good music consistently through the charts. Popular music by its definition is popular and popular does not always equal good theoretical construction. Hell, even Mozart was considered a bit 'trashy' in his day for his usage of popular folk melodies.

There is plenty of good music around now from classical to jazz, rock to EDM. There are talented artists across the genres and when you look at some of the more successful artists in all manner of genres you actually see they all attended the same colleges and academies and actually have great training behind them.

This is another good one. It's been on a lot of adverts. I love the richness to this one as well even though it's from 2009.

Also funny great, the saxo sound of the 90s especially through the Lethal Weapon films. :D
