Hello.

I have a Msi gaming 290 which works fine in BF4, Tomb Raider, Unigine valley/heaven, 3dmark but have noticed in Crysis 3 when it comes to certain levels with water if running along on the water surface it produces artifacts.

The artifacts appear only on water and not anywhere else.

Crysis 1 and 2 also have slightly different artifacts produced in water only.

The artifacts are also only produced above a frame rate of about 45.

System and card at stock and it does the same thing.

Is this a known Crysis 1/2/3 bug in water with Amd cards which might never be fixed and has anyone else noticed it or could anyone test it? Thanks.

Here is a short video of the artifacts which appear in water areas of Crysis 3 with my card:-

I have ccrisis 2 install but it's modded. If crisis e early on in game has water I'll give it a try on my two.

There is water on the first level of Crysis 3 but not any you can run on (just swim in) I think.

They appear later on in the game. The scene in the video is part of the level called "The root of all evil". In a certain part of the "welcome to the Jungle level" before that you can run along the water and it also produces artifacts there as well but that is later on in the game also.

OK can't watch right now, but I will look at where I up to on crysis 2 and see if i notice anything.
Not played a crysis game on my 290s yet.

I really need to start reading back before I post lol phone like to auto correct. Lol

I have played it again on the 290, i have not noticed any GFX corruption there or anywhere.

Is it overclocked?

No, not overclocked. I never see artifacts on any other game I have or benchmark and in Crysis 3 it's only running along the surface of the water that the artifacts appear.

I did not have it on my 670 but in the area shown in the video my framerate was not above the level were it artifacts on the 290.

I see what you mean, i don't get that. Which drivers are you using?

Are you sure it's not overclocked? It says at the bottom 1100Mhz/1250Mhz, which seems to suggest that the core's running at 1100Mhz, as the RAM will be at 1250Mhz

Tried all drivers from 13.10 including the latest 14.4. To really show it up more if I run along the surface of the water pointing down at it they will pop up more.

In the video right enough I had it overclocked but at stock it does the same. Tried even downclocking core and memory to 900/1000 and they still appear. If I cap the framerate to 40 they don't appear.

With older cards. 7970 I think.

I see.

Some people have also seen this water bug with older card's like the 7970. It is strange that other people don't have it as it is something you would notice.

LtMatt does not see it happening on his system.

Trying to figure out what could be different on my system compared to his which is causing artifacts to appear when running on water surfaces on Crysis 3.

I was wondering if it's a faulty card but when the artifacts appear in Crysis 3 and only in area's with water and having to run along the water surface not when swimming in it, but no other benchmark or game has artifacts it's hard to see it being that.

Just tried a nvidia 670 on the same levels were I was seeing artifacts on water surfaces with the 290 but dropped the details from very high to high so it would match the framerate and lo and behold it does the same thing with the nvidia card.

So either this is a Crysis 3 bug just on water in some levels that some don't notice or there is something else on my system that is causing it.

Its probably something in the system, if others are getting it on multiple cards and your getting the same thing with Nvidia and AMD then it can't be the GPU's.

System RAM?

Did try the system ram at stock but produced the same thing. Will try different ram and maybe the next step would be to test Crysis 3 using the nvidia 670 on another system.

I wonder is Ltmatt or anyone else that does not see this problem using windows 8 or 8.1 or windows 7 and could it be a bug that appears using 8/8.1 which does not appear using windows 7?

I'm running windows 8.1. i could go back to the spot though i don't remember seeing it at any point there.

I will post back later today. :)

Thanks. Tried different sticks of system ram and even with just one stick I still get the same artifacts.

If you don't get it the only thing left may be to try the nvidia 670 in a completely different system and if it still does it, it will be very strange.
