Motorola Moto G - new budget smartphone champion?

My Moto G has gone back to Motorola, the SIM just wouldn't stay in anymore.

And to put icing on the cake....It toasted itself when I did a factory reset before packing it :(

Anyone know where I can buy a dual sim one from the UK ? I was going to order one from China but this statement makes me worried about the lack of warranty.

So, is this still the budget phone to aim for, or is there something else on the horizon? My Xperia Play does not exactly have the internal storage demanded of some apps these days.

Ordered one off the bay for my dad, works very well. It was from a UK seller but obviously the device wasn't destined for this country, originally.

One downside is that, if you use Hangouts for SMS you can't select which number texts go from (you have to nominate a number for all texts). Seems the software element that allows you to choose a SIM for calls and texts (and have it remember a preferred option per-contact) only works with the Messaging app.

Theirs usually a new budget king released every 6-9 months.

I think a new arrival should be on the horizon soon this was released in November 2013, so a new one is due.

<£125 = budget range
£150 - £350 = mid range
>£350 = high end

above refers to launch prices as prices usually do go down with time after initial release

You can usually within the budget range buy and sell phones as soon as the new budget king is launched without any losses on ebay. Staying within the budget range effectively means after your initial purchase all upgrades are essentially free. You usually take about a £5-£20 loss maximum on depreciation due to the fees involved on ebay.

On the mid range phones you usually take a £100-200 loss in depreciation over the same time and £200-£400 on the high end phones after fees.

So even if you buy a moto g today and a new king is launched next month, you won't be losing much if you were to sell it on and buy the new one.

Great for new buyers but surely the ship has already sailed for the old?

depends how much you want the additional features. It's hardly a big outlay to swap out.

Give/sell the old phone to someone you know?

It's a big reason not to go for a Nexus 5 if you don't need the extra fluff.

As these budget phones like the MotoG get better its becoming increasingly difficult to justify getting a big premium phone. I mean its not like the better CPU in premium phones is going to make any noticeable difference in general use the MotoG is snappy and responsive and now with LTE. The MotoG is also a very nice size has decent enough build quality and looks fairly nice it's also getting Android updates very quickly.

The MotoG (and to a lesser extent the MotoX) has really put Motorola back on the phone map and deservedly so.

Does anyone have the XT model number full specifications (i.e. from a Motorola site rather than GSMArena or PDAdb) for the Moto G 4G (i.e. LTE bands)?

I'm due an upgrade this month and currently use the HTC ONE X. I was looking at the Z1 Compact but was suggetsed take a look at the MotoG. Is it really that good? I don't want to root the phone or do anything particularly demanding. What is important now is camera, battery life, Android, intuitive UI, durability.

Don't get the G if you want a decent camera.
