Accidentally dropped my phone (even though I always do) and this fall seemed to be the one which finally shatters the screen (the LCD is intact).

It still works, but I'd like to fix it. Does anyone have much experience with fixing the screen?

Other than that, I guess I'm going to need to upgrade.

I looked at fixing an s2. The parts are easily available for <£10 but the process is fiddly/messy and to an unpracticed hand probably unlikely to come out with a good finish.

Plenty of guides on youtube. Seperating the digitiser from the glass is the tricky bit.

Id take it to the local shop.

The glass is bonded to the digitizer and is a pain to remove. Its not worth repairing, a new screen will cost 60 or 70 minimum. Just get a s/h S4 or HTC one.

I went into town today to see how much it'd cost to replace the glass. One guy said £90 and another said £85. It's just not worth it when that's a third of the price of a Nexus 5 or equivalent.

I dont know what they have been drinking, the digitizser should cost £10 off ebay and im sure it should cost them the same amount, and the fitting should be £10 - £15

My S3 glass was easy to remove...;)

Just heated it up with an hot air gun or hair drier (can't remember which one I used) for a few minutes and then lifted it carefully around the edges..

Have you ever replaced a S2 screen its an utter PITA. I found someone on Ebay doing them for £60, but for a phone thats not worth anymore than 110 its just not worth the bother.

Really? Someone only charged 10 to 15 squid? Its a labour intensive job to apply heat and remove the screen glass digitizer and what not. Not to mention the initial stripping down of the phone.

Hi guys, first of all, I really appreciate the feedback. I've got an S4 (bought for £300 squids from a competitor) which will hopefully arrive on Wednesday.

From what I read about replacing the glass (and watching a few videos), it didn't seem to bad. Due to where I work, i actually have access to a lot of the equipment I might need (such as a hot plate and vacuum chamber).

I'm assuming the basic process is to heat the glue (using a hot plate) and remove all the shards of broken glass. Then apply the adhesive strip and mount the new glass frame onto the phone.

Why is this a PITA? I'm assuming I do not need to replace the digitizer since the phone still works pretty damn perfect ignoring the shattered screen.

I've just briefly looked on eBay and the replacement glass sets seem to also come with a bunch of tools:
