New 280x vs Used 290?

Which would you advise to go with? I'm pretty sure the used 290's will have been used to mine, so I'm unsure whether to just stick with a new 280x instead for around the same price. Another option is a new 770, no preference between green and red.

What do you think?

I would not recommend buying a used 290, lots of people have had incompatibility issues with them so you would be better buying new so you have some comeback.

I had to RMA 3 of them myself before I gave up and bought an Nvidea. Plenty of other people have had no trouble with them either but its not worth the risk getting one second hand if you ask me.

Depends what res you game at. I would go with a used GTX780

Titanfall maxes out 2gb VRAM on my GTX670 (but only has ~80% GPU usage)

ah my budget is maximum £250 which rules out a used 780, and it would be used for single monitor 1080p gaming. I'm not looking for any specific features between the 280x and the 770 :) thank you for the replies! Doesn't look liked a used 290 will be worth it then.

Your max budget is set, but for +£69 you get a brand new 290 TriX, worth every penny.

But in saying that, I can only see the price of 290's dropping now mining has dropped off, reckon they'll be around the £275 mark soon enough.

I'm a sucker for a warranty, especially with components that are put under as much stress as a graphics card.

You can still have warranty on used items. I bought an EVGA GTX670 off someone then contacted EVGA and extended the warranty to 5 years after providing the Ebay receipt of sale to them

1080p your laughing. My 670 copes with just about everything in 1440p, just not Crysis 3 in all highest settings. 1080p everything works flawlessly on my ageing i5 machine

Personally I would prefer the new slightly less powerful card with warranty, but you may find a second hand one where the seller will help out with RMA which would be ideal for more peace of mind!

I got a 290 off ebay for £190, I simply checked with some sellers if they could supply a copy of the original receipt, bought the first that could.
